The Last Message I Never Sent

I typed the message three times.
And deleted it three times.
It wasn’t because I didn’t know what to say. It was because I knew… it wouldn’t change anything.
Her name still sat at the top of my chat list. Pinned.
Not because she was still mine… But because I couldn’t let her go.
It had been 17 days.
17 days since her last message.
Two simple words.
No explanation. No emotion.
Just an ending… disguised as concern.
At first, I didn’t accept it.
I kept checking my phone every few minutes, hoping to see her name light up again.
A “Hey.” A “I miss you.” Even a “Sorry.”
Anything.
But silence has a way of teaching you the truth that words avoid.
I tried to distract myself.
Went out with friends. Watched movies. Scrolled endlessly.
But somehow… everything reminded me of her.
The songs we used to share. The late-night calls. The way she used to say my name like it actually meant something.
I remember the night it all changed.
She was quiet.
Not the comfortable silence we used to have… But the kind that makes your heart uneasy.
“Yeah… just tired,” she replied.
That was the beginning of the distance.
Replies got shorter. Calls became rare. Excuses became normal.
And I kept holding on.
Not because it felt right… But because I didn’t want to lose her.
Funny how we fight the hardest for the people who are already letting go.
That night, I opened our old chats.
Scrolled all the way up.
To the beginning.
“Hi :)” That’s how it started.
So simple.
So harmless.
