“Numenon” and “Phenomenon”

What is the Truth about reality as we observe it with our 5 senses and thoughts?

The Thing-in-itself — “Ding an Sich” — the transcendent Reality, the objects we observe independent of our 5 senses and our ability to think, the universe as it really is independent of “the World as Will and Idea”, that Schopenhauer named his book and explained as the difference between the Ding An Sich or “Numenon” (reality as it really is) and “Phenomenon” (the various things created by our senses and thought.

And we indeed, rightly considering objects of sense as mere appearances, confess thereby that they are based upon a thing in itself, though we know not this thing as it is in itself, but only know its appearances, viz., the way in which our senses are affected by this unknown something.—

According to Plato’s “*allegory of the cave” ex*plain what Kant does, only more simple, and describe that we are like the prisoner that all his life have only ever seen shadows of objects, then are freed from his chains and walk out of the cave to see things as they really are, in sunshine. Yet then, when he walk back into the cave and try to describe Numenon (reality), they won’t easily understand, but still hold on to the idea that the shadows are reality.

Buddhism is another way to understand the Phenomena of the mind, and Buddha claim to have found a method to get free from the chains and walk out of the cave and describe his teaching as a boat that can be used to cross a river, meaning the teaching in itself is not the important part. Most of Buddhism make a lot of sense, only things like reincarnation is the reason why it’s a religion and not science.

In ***Tao Te Ching*** Laozi allegory of the sun is used several places in order to describe the Dao, for example:

“Can you cleanse your inner vision until you see nothing but the light?”

The natural, or normal, way the mind works is that we think a lot about everything, but by meditation and scriptures about mysticism, and both Western and Eastern philosophy have various explanations for how to understand the Numenon and Phenomenon.

In Christianity the allegory of the sun is used a lot, both to explain the teaching of Christendom and God Himself, and explain that we are part of God and Numenon is God:

“For in him we live and move and have our being”

Acts 17:28

The Transfiguration

In the story of “The Transfiguration” for example, it’s written:

Matthew 17: After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

Also in the Description of angels and of Jesus as He is described in Revelation, make it clear that Numenon is something above our ability to understand, and indeed something that will cause our death, if we were to see God.
