NAFDAC’s Broken Promise: Are Our Health and Safety at Risk?

Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about fake products in stores. It’s concerning, especially when you’re just trying to buy safe things at the supermarket. I went to a supermarket in my area to get some things, I wanted to check if the products I was buying were real, so I looked online to see if NAFDAC
has a system for verifying them. I found a website, http://registration.nafdac.gov.ng, that supposedly lets you do this. The problem is, I tried checking the registration numbers for several products, but none of them came up in the system. This leaves me worried. Does it mean the products are fake? Or maybe the NAFDAC website isn’t working properly? This is alarming because NAFDAC is responsible for ensuring our food, drugs, and other consumer products are safe.
If we can’t trust NAFDAC to keep us safe from fake products, who can we trust? It’s a scary situation.
NAFDAC needs to improve their platform to:
— Keep product information up-to-date. — Make verification easy and clear, All products should have a QR code that can be scanned to verify the product. — Warn consumers about fake products.
