If you want to stop wasting time on design work, Google just released Nano Banana Pro, and I spent an entire day pushing it way past its limits.

I tested 21 different design use cases everything from UI mockups to comic book panels to removing green screens from my screenshot of video footage and discovered how it might make you stop wasting time.

I hit the credit limit three times and had to switch Google accounts to keep testing.

Then I upgraded to the paid option to complete the 21 test use cases.

Nano Banana Pro sits on top of Gemini 3 Pro, giving it enhanced reasoning and real-world knowledge.

The big claim is that it can create images with accurate text rendering — something AI image generators have failed at.

I wanted to see if this was marketing hype or reality.

The test structure was simple: start with text rendering (the supposed game-changer), move through professional design work, test photo editing capabilities, try creative applications, and finish with the limitations no one talks about.

Yes, I discovered the limitations of the Google Nano Banana Pro, as you will see at the end of the story.

Before we get into results, here’s how to get started with Google Nano Banana pro.

Getting Started with Nano Banana Pro

Head to the Google Nano Banana Pro landing page.

You’ll see the landing page with features and a “Try” button. Click it.

A notice appears saying the Pro version is available. Click “Try it” again.

Now you’re in the main interface. The prompt input sits at the center of the page.

  • The tools dropdown lets you pick what you want to do: Deep Research, Create Video using Veo 3, Create Images (what we’re using), Canvas, and Guided Learning.

  • Model options default to “Thinking,” but you can switch to “Fast” or “Think with Gemini 3 Pro.” For image generation with Nano Banana Pro features, set it to Gemini 3 Pro.

  • The voice mode — the microphone button — lets you speak prompts instead of typing.

  • The plus button in the prompt box handles file uploads. You can pull from your computer, Google Drive, Google Photos, or import code for context.

Below the prompt input, quick-start buttons with pre-existing prompts are available. Helpful for seeing what’s possible.

Note: To use Nano Banana Pro features, select “Create Images” in the Tools dropdown and set your model to Gemini 3 Pro. Without this, you’re using the standard version.

When you first click the try link, it opens with a default prompt:

It generates a comic panel immediately.

Now let’s see what this thing can do.

I structured the tests to move from simple to complex, starting with the feature everyone’s talking about.

Text Rendering

Most AI image models produce gibberish when you ask for text in images.

Nano Banana Pro is built on Gemini 3 Pro, so it understands what text means and how it should look.

Test 1: Expressive Typography

I started with expressive typography.

Prompt: Make 6 minimalistic logos, each is an expressive word: whisper, explode, drip, bounce, freeze, melt. Make the letters visually express the meaning of each word in a dramatic way. Composition: flat vector rendering of all logos in black on a single white background.

The results were immediate.

“Whisper” appeared in thin, delicate lines — barely there, like an actual whisper. “Explode” had energy radiating outward with sharp fragments bursting from the center.

“Drip” dripped down with droplets falling from the letters. “Bounce” showed motion lines indicating bouncing energy.

“Freeze” had jagged, crystalline edges. “Melt” pooled at the bottom like it was melting away.

It understands meaning and expresses it visually.

Test 2: Text Rendering in Architectural Designs

Prompt: View of a modern street in Tokyo on a bright sunny day. The buildings are uniquely shaped like letters that spell out TOKYO in bright red, white, and blue. The buildings still look like buildings, and the resemblance to letters is subtle.

The buildings formed T-O-K-Y-O while appearing to be legitimate architecture.

The “T” — white high-rises with red accents. The “O” — a curved glass structure. The “K” and “Y” — angular buildings with blue and white facades. The final “O” — a circular red building.

Cars, people, and trees at street level. A complete, believable cityscape that happens to spell TOKYO.

Then I tested multilingual capabilities.

Test 3: Multilingual Text

Prompt: “Create a modern coffee shop poster with the text FRESH BREW DAILY in English, then translate it to Swahili while keeping the design aesthetic the same.”

The design was maintained — same colors, layout, typography style.

The translation read “KAHAWA MPYA KILA SIKU” (Fresh Coffee Every Day in Swahili) with the tagline “Fungua Kila Asbuhi” (Open Every Morning).

But here’s the problem: the translation was direct, not necessarily what a native marketing team would use. The visual translation worked well. The actual language needed human verification.

Then I hit the first credit limit.

The message: “You’ve reached your Nano Banana Pro limit. Images will be created with the previous version until your limit resets on Nov 23, 2:10 PM. You can upgrade at any time for higher limits.”

After just three tests.

I switched to another Google account to continue. A workaround, but it highlighted the credit constraint on the free tier.

Test 4: Mobile UI App Design

Prompt:Design a modern mobile app interface for a fitness tracking app. Show the home screen with daily stats, a progress ring, workout buttons, and a bottom navigation bar. Use a clean, minimalist design with a purple-and-white color scheme. Include realistic UI text and icons.”

Something unexpected happened.

It created a complete React application with working code. Full component with useState hooks, Tailwind CSS styling, live preview showing the fitness app.

I wanted an image to share with my team, not code.

Follow-up prompt: “Can you create an image instead?”

Now I had the same design as a high-resolution image.

This revealed that Nano Banana Pro can give you both working code and static images. If you’re a developer, you get functional code. If you’re a designer or product manager, you get polished mockups to share.

The interface showed: purple gradient progress ring at 7.4%, clean typography for stats, proper icon design for steps/calories/heart rate, workout type buttons with icons, and professional bottom navigation.

Test 5: Web Design UI Analytics dashboard.

This one didn’t go well.

I had to iterate on the prompt because it kept producing mockup-style images with the wrong dimensions.

Refined prompt: “Create a sleek analytics dashboard website UI for a social media management tool, showing graphs for engagement metrics, follower growth, and top-performing posts. Use a dark theme with teal and orange accent colors. I want it in the form of an image, the UI/UX that I can share with my developer for coding this dashboard into a real web app. Do not provide a mockup. I need the actual, real web dashboard page UI that I will use to code. Do not provide the code, only the creative dashboard image that fits my needs.”

I tested light mode: “Give me the light mode version.”

Same layout, clean white background instead of dark.

Then I hit the credit limit again.

My assessment: these designs work for conceptual presentations and explaining broad ideas to clients. They show what a dashboard could look like and help visualize data structure.They’re not pixel-perfect, production-ready designs.

You’d still need several iterations to get specifics right — exact spacing, precise colors, proper data relationships, responsive behavior, interaction states.

Test 6: Brand Identity Design

Prompt: “Create a brand identity showcase for a coffee shop called Bean & Brew, including: logo variations, color palette swatches, business card mockup, and coffee cup packaging design. All on a single presentation board.”

It produced circular badge logo with coffee bean and leaf (EST. 2023), horizontal wordmark “BEAN & BREW”, simplified leaf icon, five color swatches with hex codes (Espresso Brown, Creamy Latte, Forest Green, Warm Terracotta, Charcoal Grey), business card design with bean pattern texture, multiple cup sizes (8oz, 12oz, 16oz) with logo application, coffee bag with label design.

Presented on a corkboard background with coffee beans and burlap texture scattered around.

What usually takes days — logo variations, color palette research, business card layouts, packaging design, brand guidelines presentation — is done in seconds.

Would a professional designer use this as-is? No.

But as a starting point for a small business owner, student project, or pitch presentation, this could be valuable.

Test 7: Educational Infographic

Prompt:Create an infographic about the African Elephant, focusing on habitat, conservation status, and interesting facts about their social behavior.”

It came up with an infrographic with three main sections: Habitat & Range (map of Africa with color-coded zones for forests, savanna, desert, water sources), Conservation Status (IUCN Red List gauge from vulnerable to endangered, icons showing threats like poaching and habitat loss, conservation efforts with ranger representation), Social Behavior (three circular vignettes for matriarchal society, complex communication using infrasound, strong family bonds and allomothering).

A complete, publication-ready educational infographic ready for sharing. With warm earth tones, African-inspired border patterns, cohesive visual style.

Gemini understood logical relationships. Habitat informs conservation challenges, which connects to why social structure matters for species survival.

Test 8: Real-time information

Prompt: “Create a vibrant pop-art style infographic showing today’s weather in Nairobi with temperature, conditions, and a 3-day forecast.”

It pulled actual weather data and styled it as a comic-book weather report.

Bold pop-art colors — red, blue, yellow, with halftone dots. “NAIROBI WEATHER TODAY!” with a colorful city skyline. Current conditions: 22°C (feels like 25°C), light rain 42% chance, wind 12 mph northeast.

Three-day forecast: Sunday, Nov 23 (light rain, high 23°C, low 15°C), Monday, Nov 24 (light rain, high 26°C, low 15°C), Tuesday, Nov 25 (chance of showers, high 25°C, low 16°C).

Comic-style “ZAP!” and “POP!” sound effects added to the aesthetic.

You can create content without inputting data—daily weather graphics, real-time sports scores, stock market updates — anything that needs current information.

Test 9: Recipe Visualization Test

Prompt: “Create a step-by-step infographic showing how to make Ugali, a traditional Kenyan dish, with ingredients and cooking instructions.”

It got the recipe right

Ingredients & Tools section: Maize flour (2:1 water-to-flour ratio), water, Sufuria (large pot), Mwiko (wooden spoon).

Four cooking steps with illustrations: Boil water in the Sufuria, Add flour while stirring to prevent lumps, Stir pressing mixture against pot walls until it thickens, Form and cook until it firms up and pulls away from the pot.

It knew proper Swahili names for cooking tools, the traditional 2:1 ratio, a specific stirring technique to prevent lumps, and how Ugali is traditionally served and eaten.

Photo Editing Capabilities

I wanted to test practical use cases for content creators.

Green screen removal first. I took a screenshot from my raw video footage — me sitting in front of a green screen with a microphone setup.

Prompt: “Remove the background from this image and place the subject on a modern gradient background with soft lighting.”

Clean background removal. The green screen is completely gone, replaced by a blue-to-purple-to-orange gradient.

Edge detection around me, the chair, and the microphone arm was good—no green spill, proper separation.

For content creators shooting against green screens, this saves hours of time. Use it for still images or thumbnails instead of keying out green screens.

Follow-up test.

Prompt:Can you make it a white background with a radial center mix of white and #f2f2f2 color?

Clean white background with subtle radial gradient — bright white center fading to light gray at edges.

Professional product photography or corporate headshot background quality.

Test 11: Object Removal

I found an image on Unsplash — six people watching sunset on a hilltop, arms raised.

Prompt: “Remove the third person from the left on this image and fill in the background.”

The person was removed, and sunset, mountains, and sky filled in.But there is a visible gap in the group. Spacing looked unnatural.

Follow-up: “You removed but left a gap. Can you pull the other people together in the photo to make it look professional without that missing gap of the person you removed and merge it ?”

The gap was closed, and the group looked more cohesive. But if you look at the person on the far right, their pose was altered.

Object removal isn’t perfect. It requires several iterations.

For simple removals, this works great. Complex edits involving people require multiple iterations and may require manual touch-ups.

Test 12 Style Transfer

I got a portrait from Unsplash.

Prompt:Transform this photo into a vibrant pop art illustration with bold colors and comic book-style outlines, similar to Andy Warhol’s work.”

From regular portrait to gallery-worthy pop art.

Bright orange-red hair with bold black outlines. Face with flat, graphic quality and halftone dot shading. Bold red lips, defined features. Comic book-style inking. Characteristic pop art color palette — yellow background, teal accents. Halftone dot pattern giving a screen-printed feel.

This stylistic transformation would take hours in Photoshop with multiple filters, manual adjustments, and artistic skill.

Test 13 Comic Creation Test

Prompt:Create a single comic book panel showing a superhero standing on a rooftop overlooking Nairobi city at sunset, with dramatic lighting and bold inking. Include a speech bubble saying The city needs me.

Caped superhero in dramatic crouching pose on rooftop edge.

Nairobi skyline background with the KICC tower. Sunset with orange and purple skies. Bold comic book inking with heavy shadows. Speech bubble with “THE CITY NEEDS ME.” in clear, readable text.

The text in the speech bubble was legible. The composition followed proper comic book framing. Art style was consistent.

Useful for storyboarding comics before committing to final art, creating quick visual references for artists, generating concept art for graphic novels, and making social media content in comic style.

Test 14: Character Design Sheet

Prompt:Create a character design sheet for a video game protagonist: a young tech-savvy inventor with goggles and a tool belt. Show front view, side view, and back view on a single white background with clean line art.

It came up with a character named “KIDA” — a young tech-savvy inventor. Three views: front (showing goggles on head, spiky hair, tool belt with gadgets, cargo pants, heavy boots), side (profile and tool belt positioning, goggles from side), back (backpack design, how tools are arranged on the belt from behind). Small robot companion at her feet.

Game developers need this for 3D modeling. Animators use it for character consistency. Concept artists create it for pitching characters.

Clean line art, consistent proportions across three views, white background ready for reference.

For indie game developers or animation students, this kind of character sheet takes hours or days.

Test 15 Concept Art Test

Prompt:Create concept art for a futuristic African city in 2075, showing sleek skyscrapers blended with traditional architectural elements, flying vehicles, and lush vertical gardens. Photorealistic style with dramatic sunset lighting.”

It came up with sleek futuristic skyscrapers with solar panels and glass facades. Traditional African architectural elements — conical structures reminiscent of traditional huts are incorporated into modern buildings.

Flying vehicles — VTOLs and hovercrafts in the sky. Lush vertical gardens cascading down buildings. Ground-level activity with people, trams, and green spaces. Dramatic sunset lighting casts warm golden tones.

Individual architectural features are visible. Texture on buildings. Integration of nature and technology. Cultural elements woven into futuristic design.

This appears in sci-fi film pitch decks, video game design documents, architecture portfolios for speculative design, and art exhibitions.

Test 16 YouTube Thumbnail

Prompt:Design a YouTube thumbnail for a video titled I Tested Google’s New AI Image Generator. Include dramatic text overlay, contrasting colors red and blue, and an excited facial expression placeholder. 16:9 aspect ratio.”

It created this Click-worthy thumbnail with a split-screen design: Left side red with “I TESTED” in bold, distressed white text, “OLD AI” label, and a shocked expression.

Right side blue with “NEW AI!” in bold yellow text, “GOOGLE’S NEW AI!” below, excited expression. Big “VS.” connecting the two sides.

It uses YouTube thumbnail best practices: high-contrast colors that pop in feeds, bold, readable text even at small sizes, emotional faces showing clear reactions, a clear comparison setup that creates curiosity, and a perfect 16:9 aspect ratio.

Content creators spend hours on thumbnails because they’re critical for click-through rates.

Test 17 Instagram Carousel

Prompt: Create an Instagram carousel post template for 5 AI Tools Every Creator Needs. Design 5 slides with numbered headings, brief descriptions, and matching gradient backgrounds. Modern, eye-catching style.”

It created five ready-to-post Instagram slides with consistent branding.

Slide 1 — ChatGPT: Blue to purple gradient, “Your Creative Brainstorm Partner.” Slide 2 — Canva AI: Purple to cyan gradient, “Design Magic for Everyone.” Slide 3 — Descript: Cyan to lime gradient, “Video Editing Made Simple.” Slide 4 — Midjourney: Lime to yellow gradient with purple accents, “AI Art from Imagination.” Slide 5 — Buffer AI Assistant: Yellow to orange to red gradient, “Smart Scheduling & Strategy.”

Cohesive design — same typography style, same layout structure, smooth gradient transitions between slides.

Content creators could post this immediately. Information is clear, design is modern, and it's formatted for Instagram’s carousel feature.

Test 18 Event Poster

Prompt:Create a modern event poster for a Tech Innovation Summit 2025 happening in Nairobi on December 15th. Include event details, venue, time, and a QR code placeholder. Use bold typography and a tech-inspired design.

It created a professional event poster with the title: “TECH INNOVATION SUMMIT 2025” with the tagline “NAIROBI: SHAPING THE FUTURE.”

Theme topics: AI & Automation, Fintech Frontiers, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Digital Infrastructure. Event details: Date (December 15, 2025), Venue (SARIT EXPO CENTRE, NAIROBI), Time (9:00 AM — 5:00 PM). QR code with “SCAN TO REGISTER & VIEW AGENDA.”

Design features a digital map of Africa with circuit board patterns, a dark background with teal and purple tech graphics, and clean modern typography.

Usable for social media promotion, email marketing, print posters, event websites. Quality is good enough for print shop or digital marketing campaigns.

Nano Banana Limitations

Let's talk about the limitations I discovered.

Test 19 Small Face Detail

Prompt:Create a wide group photo of 20 people at a wedding celebration, all facing the camera with clear facial features and expressions.

At first glance: beautiful wedding scene. Rustic barn venue with stone walls. Floral arch decorations and string lights. Twenty people in wedding attire. Natural outdoor lighting. “CONGRATULATIONS” banner. Everyone is facing the camera, smiling, well-dressed.

Zoom in on the faces.

At full size, faces look good. Zoom and you notice flaws. Some faces lack fine detail. Facial features get soft or blurry in places.

The documentation mentions this: “it can still struggle with small faces, accurate spelling, and fine details in images.”

Test 20 Complex Text Accuracy

Prompt:Create a newspaper front page with a headline, Global AI Summit Concludes, and three columns of readable article text about recent AI developments.

It produced this impressive newspaper layout with a perfect headline: “THE GLOBAL HERALD” masthead, “GLOBAL AI SUMMIT CONCLUDES” in bold. Professional layout: Multiple columns, photos from summit, article sections for “New Accords on Ethical AI,” “Breakthroughs in Climate Modelling,” “AI-Powered Medical Diagnostics.”

But there was a problem.

Text looks legible from a distance. Try reading the paragraphs, and you’ll find issues. Words are misspelled. “AI-powered” might render as “AI-owered” without the letter P.

For mockups, presentations, and visual concepts where people won’t read fine print, it's perfect, but for actual publications, it is not good.

Test 21 Factual Accuracy

Prompt:Create an infographic comparing the market share of smartphone brands in 2025 with accurate percentages and brand logos.

It produced a professional infographic titled “GLOBAL SMARTPHONE MARKET SHARE BY BRAND — OCTOBER 2025.”

Shows: Apple (27.04%), Samsung (20.32%), Unknown (11.1%), Xiaomi (10.23%), Vivo (6.41%), Oppo (5.66%), Others (19.24%). Cites source: “Based on Mobile Vendor Market Share Worldwide Data from StatCounter Global Stats.” Bar chart and pie chart for visual comparison.

The question now is: Are these numbers correct?

Google warns in documentation: “The model’s real-world knowledge is extensive but not infallible. When generating infographics, annotating diagrams, or representing complex data, it may misinterpret information or produce incorrect results. Always verify data-driven outputs.”

The infographic looks professional and authoritative. You need to fact-check those numbers before using them in real presentations or reports.

Cost Problem

I hit credit limits multiple times during testing. At the end of my session, I wanted to know how many tokens I’d spent.

I asked: “What has been my cost for all my work today?”

Response explained: Since I’m using the platform , usage is covered by the free tier or subscription plan (Google AI Pro), not a pay-as-you-go token basis. If I had a paid subscription, it would be a fixed monthly fee, not based on individual token counts.

This answer wasn’t clear.

I looked for cost information: manage subscription page, searched menus, checked the activity page showing generated images and timeline.

No clear way of seeing actual costs or token usage.

The activity page shows what you’ve generated and when you generated it: no cost breakdown, no token counter, no clear pricing structure.

For professional use, this is concerning. You need to know: how many credits are left, how much each generation costs, the monthly spending amount, and when the limit resets.

When I asked again in the same thread, it resulted in creating a cost React calculator, which I thought was crazy :

Finally, I did not like that when I edit the original prompt, I cannot trace the previous conversation.

It writes off everything that's something I have seen on Claude as well.

Final Thoughts

Nano Banana Pro saves you time, but it needs a critical review of all the images it produces.

You still need to know what looks good, understand design principles, iterate on ideas, have a creative vision, fact-check information, edit, and refine outputs.

If you have ideas but lack Photoshop skills or need to visualize concepts quickly, this is valuable.

What works well: Text rendering and integration in images. Quick design mockups and prototypes. Marketing materials. Photo editing and style transfer. Educational infographics and data visualization. Concept art and creative work. Generating multiple variations rapidly.

What doesn't work well: Fine details in complex scenes (small faces, intricate patterns). Long-form readable text (paragraphs, articles). Absolute factual accuracy (always verify data). Consistent character features in some cases.

Overall, it's an impressive AI image generator, one of the best I’ve tested for practical, professional work.
