Why Dubai’s Second Ebola Airlift in a Week Matters More Than You Think
We often talk about “global health security” as an abstract concept. But last week, under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Dubai Humanitarian turned that abstraction into 60 tonnes of concrete action .
The second Ebola airlift to the DRC — coordinated with the WHO, UNICEF, the WFP, and the European Union — isn’t just another news headline . It’s proof that strategic logistics hubs save lives. Dubai’s position as the WHO’s Global Emergencies Logistics Hub means that when an outbreak is declared, supplies aren’t sitting in a warehouse somewhere. They’re airborne within days .
What strikes me most is the multi-partnership model. This wasn’t the UAE acting alone. It was the UAE, the EU, WHO, UNICEF, and WFP moving as one coordinated system . As Giuseppe Saba said, continuity of humanitarian operations is a “responsibility, not an option” .
That’s the kind of global citizenship worth talking about. Read more in my full analysis.
