Mesa 25.1.0 brings a wide range of enhancements and fixes aimed at improving the open-source graphics stack for Linux. This release continues Mesa’s tradition of expanding support for the latest graphics APIs and hardware while addressing long-standing performance and stability issues across several drivers.

One of the standout improvements in this release is the advancement of Vulkan support. The PanVK driver, which targets Arm Mali GPUs, now supports Vulkan 1.2 and several significant extensions. Notably, support for features like VK_KHR_shader_subgroup_uniform_control_flow, VK_KHR_shader_float_controls2, and VK_EXT_sample_locations has been added, particularly benefiting AMD’s RADV driver for GFX10+ GPUs. These additions further align Mesa with modern Vulkan capabilities and provide developers with greater flexibility and performance tuning options.
Hardware support has also been broadened. Mesa 25.1.0 introduces compatibility with the latest Mali G720 and G725 GPUs through updates to the Panfrost and PanVK drivers. This allows newer ARM-based devices to benefit from the open-source graphics stack, particularly relevant for Linux on mobile and embedded platforms.
Driver-specific improvements are another major focus. The AMD RADV driver sees the addition of VK_EXT_device_memory_report, giving developers more detailed diagnostics about memory usage. Performance regressions in high-profile titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring have been resolved, making this update particularly relevant for Linux gamers. Meanwhile, Intel's ANV driver has fixed rendering errors in Vulkan ray tracing samples and eliminated stability issues in games like Dota 2.
NVIDIA’s open-source NVK driver continues to mature, with support for VK_MESA_image_alignment_control and stability fixes for demanding titles such as Marvel Rivals. The V3D driver for Broadcom GPUs, commonly used on Raspberry Pi, also receives attention, gaining support for advanced shader and blend equation extensions.
Significant bug fixes round out the release. These include remedies for GPU hangs and rendering glitches in a wide range of games, including GTA V Enhanced, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and the Tomb Raider IV–VI Remasteredcollection. Improvements were also made for recent titles like Ghost of Tsushima, enhancing both compatibility and performance on open-source drivers.
Overall, Mesa 25.1.0 represents a solid step forward in open graphics development. It offers expanded feature support, better hardware coverage, and critical fixes that collectively enhance the Linux gaming and development experience. This release reaffirms Mesa’s central role in making high-performance, cross-vendor graphics accessible on open platforms.
