“The Last Straw: Love at Its Breaking Point”

A wife almost left her husband for a couple of days.
1. The Weight of Life’s Unforgettable Lessons
In my life, I have experienced so many moments that have also served as lessons for me. And there are some stories that I can never forget. There is one such story in which a wife, despite not wanting it at any cost, is on her way to getting a divorce from her husband. Meanwhile, her husband loves her very much, and spending even a moment without her would be difficult for him.
2. A Evening Confession on the Bridge
So, let me start from that night when I was sitting alone in silence on a bridge by the roadside in my village. This is a story from a time when wireless phones weren’t in use, and I was around the first semester of my graduation. And it wasn’t the first time; I often used to sit there after the early sunset in the evenings because I could find some peace there. At that time, I must have been around 25 to 26 years old.
3. A Friend’s Desperate Plea
I don’t remember exactly what I was thinking while sitting there, but then, suddenly, one of my friends — my childhood companion — came over. And it seemed that he was very troubled. When I asked him, “What’s the matter?” He began to explain his troubles, saying that he was very troubled by his wife and her parents.
A Wife’s Ultimatum
His wife had left him and gone to her parents’ house, and when he went to get her, she wouldn’t come, and her parents had also refused to let him. From everything he said, it appeared that his wife was being unreasonable and that she didn’t like her husband.
5. A Cry for Help: “I Cannot Live Without Her”
After sharing his story, my friend requested that I go to his wife and convince her to come back and stay with him. He also had one more message for her: “He cannot live without you; he will destroy himself.”I was very surprised at first, as this was my first experience of this kind in life. I had no idea how to resolve the matter, but I knew I had to meet his wife because it was a serious situation and my friend was repeatedly pleading with me from the bottom of his heart.
6. A Promise Made in the Shadows of Doubt
I promised him that I would go to his house tomorrow and meet his wife. And then, tomorrow evening, I would update him with whatever report there was. According to the village schedule, it was already night, and I was late; I needed to be at my own house since dinner time was nearly over.
7. The Storm Within: Questions Without Answers
Now, I was in such a strange state — I can’t even explain what was going on in my mind that night. I was wondering, are girls really like this? Is all the blame always on the girl? And did my friend really tell me the whole truth? Should I go or not? If I don’t go, what will become of my friend, who is taking this so seriously?
By now, it was morning, and after breaking my fast, I finally set off on my bicycle to her house, which was about 5 km away. I had met the person I was going to see only once before, and perhaps she might not even know my name.
8. At the Doorstep of Secrets
Her wedding had taken place only 15 to 20 months ago, and although I was invited, for some reason I wasn’t in the village at the time, so I couldn’t attend it. However, my friend had once introduced me to his wife when she was at his house, and I had met her during the early days of her marriage.
9. Behind Closed Doors: A Mother-in-Law’s Guarded Welcome
I had finally reached her village. Now I started asking for her house address. Gradually, I made my way to her doorstep and knocked on the door. A lady came to the door and asked, “Who are you?” I introduced myself, and by that time, my friend’s wife had already reached the door from her bedroom and recognized me.
10. Tears of a Broken Vow
The lady who opened the door first was my friend’s mother-in-law. They invited me to come inside, which I gladly accepted. And now, I had gone inside. And now begins the second part of the story. My first question was, “Why don’t you go to your husband?” Upon hearing that, she started crying.
11. The Hidden Truth: Love or Obsession?
Then I reassured her by saying, “Don’t consider me merely as your husband’s friend; I am first a human being, and later, I have relationships with others.” So, please tell me your whole story in detail. And then it emerged that my friend, after marriage, is not working or doing any job.
12. The Cost of Possessive Love
He has given up everything he used to do before marriage; now, he gets angry over the smallest things and even threatens divorce. All the dresses I have are old, yet he insists that I wear modern and new ones. When he sees someone else’s dress, he tells me to copy it.
13. Starvation of Body and Soul
And when I ask him to let me go shopping, he replies, “I have been ruined by loving you. I have nothing left except you, and I love you immensely. That’s why I cannot let you work; I think about you every moment.” Every word I said would make him angry.
14. The Breaking Point of a Wife.
He had, on several occasions, cut his own hand in front of me. Yet, I stayed with him at his home, and throughout our time together, I never got to eat my fill. Now, tell me, how can I continue living with someone who is merely infatuated with me, yet cannot even provide two square meals a day?
15. A Mediator’s Truth or Compromise?
As he was explaining all this, his tears kept flowing, and he even asked me, “Can one fill their stomach by indulging in madness and boundless love?” I don’t even demand new dresses. After listening to the words of both his wife and his mother, I understood the situation.
16. The Last Chance of Hope
Then I thought, “I’ll give him one last chance,” and after I pleaded, she agreed. Finally, I reached this decision, knowing well that my friend’s family isn’t financially strong — he comes from a middle-class background, has a limited source of income, and is even stingy.
17. The Fragile Thread of Trust
Overall, things finally started to become clear. I told him goodbye, asking for permission to see him off, and promised his wife that he wouldn’t trouble her anymore — that he would go to Delhi, where he used to work, and that once he returned to his job, everything would be fine.
He doesn’t have money, which might be why he’s been behaving this way. His wife found some hope in my words, and she, too, did not want a divorce. By this point, having understood the essence of the entire story, I felt somewhat confident that I might be able to save this relationship.
18. Trust and Responsibility.
As agreed, the two of us met that evening at the same spot where I used to sit alone every evening. Then, I offered my friend one final solution: he should go back to his job for a few days, because his wife still loves him and will remain with him.
19. Rebuilding Love on a Foundation of Reality.
The fact is, in order to manage life — the everyday things we need — we require money, which he simply doesn’t have. So, I advised him not to worry and not to burden his wife with worry either; she is safe and honest, and he needs to trust her.
She loves only him; there is no one else in her life — she likes no one else but him. She is very loyal and faithful, and he must trust her if he doesn’t want to lose her. Therefore, my advice to my friend was: earn enough money to keep your life partner happy.
20. The Moral Crossroads: Was the Lie Justified?
My friend’s eyes, which had been closed to my words until then, finally opened up; he was motivated by what I said, and on my advice, he went to the city and got a job. Today, both of them are very happy together. Finally, the lives of both of them, which were almost on the brink of ruin, were saved.
21. The Unanswered Question
And in bringing them together, I even resorted to a little bit of lying… Was that the right approach? I ask all my readers to please let me know in the comments whether it was right for me to lie or not?
Thank you so much for reading…
