Prologue

At my University we had a batchmate from Tanzania (earlier ‘Tanganyika’). An Indian by origin, his father was a descendant of the early Indians who were landed in Africa in the beginning of the Nineteenth Century (the matter of discussion in the Video here-in above).

Back in the early seventees (our times), his father was a senior official in the East African Railways and our friend Subash Sood (that is how he used to spell his first name... not the usual ‘Subhash’) was back in India to the study of Electronics Engineering.

Not that he would narrate the tales of hows and whats of their life back in time in East Africa. But some times, we could make out… that the ‘times had changed’. And they had transformed into a force to reckon with... through sheer hard work.. and perseverance.

Conceit, Deceit & Receipt

Even if we limit our writing only to the East India company’s arrival, the British Raj getting established, and the long list of their perfidy, atrocities & deceit, it will need years to be written down. Suffice to state that they did everything they could to loot this country and carry it back to England.

Natural justice has begun to be dispensed. Britain is slowly disintegrating.

We go back to Ms Palki Sharma, as an example. The British sent ship-loads of slave labourers to East Africa to create railways for furthering their own business. Never came true on any of the promises made to those poor people.

All they received was… deceit.

A life of absolute tragedies!

The Initial batch of Indian Labourers sent to East Africa by the British. These people did not know English and were made to sign a document called ‘An Agreement’. Since these people could not pronounce ‘Agreement’, they called it ‘Girmit’.. and as such called themselves in Indian dialect as ‘Girmitiyas’. Were promised salary. But given measely sums barely enough for minimalistic survival. Number of them... perished in absence of any medical facilities... Picture Courtesy: Yahoo images.

In the mean time, back in India, they usurped every conceivable entity that could gain them the monies.

The education system was destroyed so that they could replace a well running system with their curriculum.. Businesses were destroyed and everything British was imposed while everything Indian was taken away. And back in Britain they created edifices which are still serving them.

Colonial recruiters (Arkatias) operated primarily in rural regions hit hard by British land taxation, droughts, and poverty — notably the Bhojpur region (present-day Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh), Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

Recruiters often misled illiterate villagers regarding voyage distances, working conditions, and wages.

​Despite prolonged systemic hardships, the Girmitiyas transitioned from bound laborers to landowners, community leaders, and statesmen, establishing vibrant cultural anchors that endure across the global Indian diaspora..… till today.

The Diaspora abroad and we at home have been complementing each other. We here within have shown remarkable resilience by slowly bouncing back in political, social, economic and military spheres.

The arriving at No 4 in the World’s GDP Count is a potent indicator.

Indian Diaspora

Same enslaved & encumbered people have slowly grown into the largest diaspora of any nation across the world. That… due to their sheer dint of perseverance, hard work and commitment to their cause.

And…. they never forgot their roots.

The 35 millions strong diaspora all across the globe, is by & large still very nationalisic. In fact... fairly patriotic. Although even there, fault-lines do exist. But by & large... they are a force strong enough to reckon with. To give you few truths...

​1. Demographics & Scale (Global Presence). The Bharateeya diaspora spans over 130 countries.

​Three Waves of Migration... in the Colonial Era (19th – early 20th century),​ Post-Independence (1970s), and ​Modern Digital Era (1990s–Present) the IT professionals, tech innovators, entrepreneurs, and students... took them globally. One need not stress upon their accomplishments...

​2. Financial & Economic Impact. ​World Leader in Remittances with over $125 billion annually in addition to Foreign Direct Investment into India.

​3. Socio-Political Influence & ​Corporate Tech Leadership.

4. ​Political Integration.

​5. Civic & Electoral Influence: Highly educated and affluent, overseas Bharatiya communities in Western nations actively participate in civic life, host country philanthropy, and advocacy groups that foster bilateral State Relations. And respect the civic culture while adhering to their Laws.

​4. Cultural & Soft Power Footprint.

5. ​Cultural Diffusion. From Yoga and Ayurveda to music, architecture, cinema (Bollywood), and diverse cuisines, the diaspora acts as a global ambassador of Bharatiya culture.

6. ​Festivals & Pluralism. In major international cities from London to Toronto and Sydney.

​7. Literature & Thought. Writers and thinkers of Indian origin have enriched world literature, often articulating the nuanced blend of ancestral roots and diaspora identity.

Epilogue

The mother Nature had to reflect back. And it has begun.

India, which is fast changing to become Bharat, is no longer towing their line, although we still have their proxies here, who may still be busy subverting the system.

But…

Suffice to say that Britian (in fact England now) is on a sharp decline!.

And that is the essence of what Ms Palki Sharma has stated through that Video. And, I have tried through this article.
