Anthropic iOS/Mobile Engineer Interview Experience 🚀

Anthropic doesn’t run a typical FAANG-style loop, and that catches a lot of iOS candidates off guard. Here’s what the process tends to look like for mobile-focused roles.

The general process

Expect a recruiter screen, a technical phone screen focused on practical coding, and — if you advance — a virtual onsite loop that typically includes pair programming, a mobile system design round, and a behavioral/values conversation.

The full process commonly runs several weeks from first contact to offer.

What makes this different from a typical iOS interview

1. Less algorithmic, more “fix this real codebase” Rather than isolated LeetCode-style problems, expect to be dropped into an existing, moderately complex codebase and asked to add a feature, refactor something, or track down a bug — live, with the interviewer treating it more like pair programming than a test.

Reported examples for mobile roles include debugging a memory leak in a chat feed built with SwiftUI or React Native, and building a custom image-caching layer so a scrolling chat thread doesn’t keep re-downloading images.

2. Mobile system design, with an AI twist Expect to design around real constraints specific to this kind of product — state management for a chat-style interface, local caching, network resilience, and handling continuous, asynchronous data streams (think: an AI response streaming in token by token, not a single API response landing all at once).

3. The values round carries real weight This is consistently flagged as where candidates are most likely to stumble. Interviewers reportedly want to see genuine, specific reasoning about responsible engineering and how you think through tradeoffs — not rehearsed, generic answers.

Reading Anthropic’s own published materials on their approach to AI safety before this round is worth the time, more so than typical “company values” prep at other companies.

4. Communication is graded as its own skill Across nearly every reported account, narrating your thinking clearly — your assumptions, your tradeoffs, where you might be wrong — shows up as a distinct thing interviewers are watching for, separate from whether the code works.
