Iceland Short Trip
An island with tons of surprises
From my point of view, all we know about Iceland is almost just its name, maybe we could point it on a map so far, but I have the feeling that this island is forgotten from our minds. For this reason I want to talk about it, about if it is worth the visit and what kind of wonderful thing we can find there. In the next lines I will talk about interesting places and also activities we can do in this country, and visit the country just depends on you.

Viking Horses
The most important decision before we buy the airplane tickets, is to choose the correct season. In my case it is peace of cake, I would travel in winter, because you can find low prices, less tourists and of course the perpetual night with Northern Lights.
After choosing the season, we must know that the best way to go to Iceland from Europe is go to London and then to Iceland, the international airport is Keflavik and is just 50 Km from Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland.
Even if Iceland is not a big country, we would need several months to visit all the beautiful places that this country hides. Writing this research, I’ve found a really good option to see more places in short time and spending low amount of money, this option is rent a motorhome and drive through the good roads to visit all the places I’ve selected in this small guide.
We must understand that in Iceland we will find the most amazing nature’s beauties, beautiful landscapes everywhere, from humongous glaciers to fresh red lava fields. Connecting to nature is a good reason to travel to Iceland.
The main activities I recommend you for visiting start with a skin and soul rejuvenating in the Blue Lagoon. Here you can find a natural geothermal spa, where you can take a long relaxing bath in mineral rich water, which is natural heated and you can enjoy a comfortable temperature around 38 ºC. But the best of this spa is the rejuvenating silica mug, you must use it in your face, neck and relax for 10 minutes, then you can rest in a natural caves that are converted into saunas. I am sure that if you try it, you are bound to repeat every year.

The next day, I recommend you to ride real viking horses. They are small but really strong, you will feel the vibration of each step of the horse, and their whinny will transport you to the viking time.
The third day we could travel to the Thingvellir region where you will enjoy volcanic landscapes and you will see the continental drift between the North American and Eurasian plates. The cracks are enough big to see them and in this region is a place named Silfra where you will have your most incredible diving experience, not only because you the water is so calm and clear that you can see more than 100 meters under the water, but because you will be able to swim touching one different continent with each hand. I think being between these two continents must be an unforgettable experience. You cannot miss it !
As I said in the first paragraphs Iceland is frozen volcanic island, there are more than 200 volcanoes and nowadays most of them are active. One of our last activities is to fly in helicopter and watch the lava of active volcanoes. Nordurflug is the largest helicopter service in Iceland, they will take you to the most amazing places, with them you can see fresh lava, glaciers, geysers, icebergs floating on a beautiful lakes, and so many places. With them you also will make a small picnic to take a walk around this incredible places, and the best of all is that they bring you back safe to home. Believe me, at least google for Nordurflug.

Vestrahorn mountain
Our final destination will let us observe the spectacle produced by the Sun’s solar storms over our sky. We will see the Northern Lights. Maybe we already watched them while we were doing some activities described before, because to watch the northern lights we don’t need to go to particular place, it’s enough to go far from city lights. Of course there are tons of campings where we can enjoy the spectacle with hundreds of people, and if unluckily we don’t see the northern lights, at least we will be watching the stars with good company.
In conclusion I think Iceland worths the visit. Maybe because half of population in Iceland believe in Elves and Trolls, I get the impression that Iceland is a magic country full of magic people.
