Panda Planet: An Immersive Digital Odyssey into the World of the Giant Panda

The Vision: A National Treasure in the Digital Age

What does it feel like to witness the birth of a legend? “Panda Planet” is the first official immersive light and shadow exhibition dedicated to China’s “Top Tier” national treasure. Debuting as part of the 60th-anniversary celebrations of China-France diplomatic relations in Paris, this permanent exhibition at the Beijing Dewey Center uses cutting-edge digital art to tell the story of the Giant Panda — from birth to maturity, and from the Sichuan mountains to the global stage.

The First Floor: 41-Projector Hyper-Immersive Space

The ground floor is a masterclass in large-scale visual engineering. Powered by a cluster of 4 Hirender Media Servers, the space features a 360° light and shadow matrix.

• The Infinite Wall: 16 projectors create a staggering resolution of $24527 \times 1200$.
• The Living Floor: 25 projectors deliver a high-definition ground canvas at $8820 \times 6109$.
• Using Multi-display adapter fusion technology, Hirender achieves seamless edge-blending and color calibration, allowing visitors to walk through a hyper-realistic forest where every bamboo leaf and panda cub is rendered in lifelike detail.

The Second Floor: The Interactive Dialogue

On the second floor, the exhibition shifts from observation to participation. A dedicated Hirender server drives 9 projectors, creating a real-time bridge between the audience and the digital world.

• Wall Interaction (SPOUT + Unity): Utilizing the low-latency SPOUT stream transmission, gestures are captured and processed by the Unity engine instantly.
• Floor Interaction (Notch): Hirender captures high-speed signals from Notch interactive programs, mapping body movements to the digital environment. Step on the floor to trigger ripples or walk alongside a digital panda — technology here serves as a tool for ecological education.
