Everyone Said Pinterest Wouldn’t Work for My Niche. I’m Testing That for 90 Days.

A live experiment using Pinterest to drive traffic to Substack, Medium, and Gumroad.

For years I assumed Pinterest was for food or travel bloggers and Etsy shops.

Not for solopreneurs writing about digital products, newsletters, and building income alongside a 9–5. That was my assumption and I never actually tested it.

Then I looked closer and noticed something most people miss: Pinterest isn’t social media. It’s a search engine. Content doesn’t die in 4 hours like an Instagram post. It gets indexed, sits in search results, and keeps driving traffic weeks or months after you posted it.

That changes the calculus entirely.

So I started an experiment. 90 days. 3 pins a day. Every pin points to one of three destinations: a Substack post, a Medium article, or a Gumroad product page. Three goals — subscribers, read time, and direct sales from one daily habit that takes me about 30 minutes to batch and schedule for the week.

I’m not running ads. No growth hacks. Just consistent pinning, keyword-optimised titles written like YouTube thumbnails, and a consistent visual brand so readers start recognising the content before they even click.

The early signs are moving faster than I expected. Whether that translates into real traffic and revenue — I genuinely don’t know yet. That’s why the experiment runs for 90 days, not 10.

I’ll share the full breakdown — what’s working, what’s not, and the exact numbers as the experiment progresses.

If you’ve written Pinterest off for your niche without testing it, this one might be worth following.
