Hello!

As many of you know, a new season of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was released this past week. Of course, I’ve already watched the whole season by now. In tradition, I had to go treat myself to a dirty soda while watching.

I went to Holiday Oil (a gas station here in Utah) because they have a great soda station with lots of flavored syrups, creamer, and fresh lime and lemon. My go-to drink is Coca Cola Zero Sugar or Diet Coke with lime, 1 pump of cherry syrup, 2 pumps of sugar-free coconut syrup, and 1 pump of creamer. It’s my favorite and always gives me a little pick me up no matter what kind of day I’m having. Of course this was the drink I chose for the show because the ladies love diet coke.

For people who might not know about it, a “dirty soda” is very popular in Utah. It’s not “dirty” because it contains alcohol, it’s completely non-alcoholic. The name comes from all the mix-ins like flavored syrups, citrus, and sometimes heavy cream or coffee creamer that make the soda a little extra.

There are a lot of soda shops around Utah, but two of the most popular ones are Fiiz and Swig. Even gas stations here have their own soda creation stations. I enjoy both Fiiz and Swig, but I really appreciate the affordability of getting a soda at a gas station.

I used to get my soda fix at Maverik all the time, but one day I stopped at Holiday Oil and it quickly became my favorite place for fountain sodas. What won me over was the freshness of their limes and how conveniently they keep them right by the soda mix ins. At Maverik, I did eventually find limes, but they were out of the way near other foods like salsa and onions and not sure how I feel about that.

Today I tried a new recipe after seeing a video on Instagram. I went to Holiday Oil and made a Dr Pepper Zero Sugar with a splash of horchata from the soda fountain and lemon. It was different but really delicious.

I also made a drink for my husband. He loves Mountain Dew, so I made him a dirty soda with 4 pumps of mango, 2 pumps of lime, and fresh lemon with no ice. He seemed to really like it. That said, he’s usually pretty neutral about anything that isn’t ice cream or my salsa haha.

I hope this blog inspires you to try a dirty soda, whether it’s at a local soda shop, a gas station, or even at home. If you ever want tips on flavor pairings with soda or sparkling water, feel free to reach out!

Thank you so much for reading my blog. I really appreciate it. ❤️
