A Night of Poetry, Dance and Devotion: Tagore Lives On Through ‘Manane Rabindranath’

Kolkata, April 2: In a fitting tribute to the timeless genius of Rabindranath Tagore, Sonarpur NADAM presented an evocative cultural evening titled “Manane Rabindranath” at Rabindra Sadan, drawing an audience immersed in music, dance and poetic expression.

The auditorium at Rabindra Sadan was filled to capacity, reflecting the overwhelming response and deep cultural resonance of the programme among audiences.

Conceptualised and directed by Sandip Mallick, the programme brought together an impressive ensemble of eminent artistes and cultural personalities, lending the evening both gravitas and artistic richness.

The evening was graced by an eminent gathering of distinguished artistes and cultural personalities, including Padmashree Mamata Shankar, SNA Awardee Guru Kalavati Devi, Sharmila Biswas, Priti Patel, Aloka Kanungo, and Sujata Mohapatra.

The occasion was further enriched by the esteemed presence of Anita Mallick, Chandroday Ghosh, Poly Guha, Arundhuti Roy, Dr. Subhasish Bhattacharya, Koushik Chakraborty, Laili Basu, Jonaki Sarkar, Rina Jana, Rama Prasad Chattopadhyay, Susmita Banerjee, Luna Podder, Sujatha Ramalingam, Sadhana Bhattacharya, Maloy Bhattacharya, Somnath Kutti, Nibedita Banerjee, Chandraboli Dutta Rudra, Rajashree Das, Pallab Bandapadhyay, and Shilpi Mukherjee, whose gracious presence added immense distinction and cultural depth to the occasion.

All the distinguished guests were felicitated in a traditional manner with Santiniketan-style ang vastra, garlands of fragrant beli flowers, and sweets, adding a touch of cultural warmth and elegance to the ceremony.

The evening unfolded through a series of thoughtfully curated segments in its first session — Nrityer Tale Tale, Ravirag, Saad, Mone Mone, Basanta Chhoa and Mukti. Each presentation reflected nuanced interpretations of Tagore’s philosophy, weaving together Rabindra Sangeet, expressive movement and narrative elements.

“A notable highlight of the evening was a captivating group choreography that seamlessly blended Rabindra Sangeet with traditional Kathak bols, creating a mesmerizing rhythmic dialogue between the timeless essence of Rabindranath Tagore and the grace of Kathak.”

The second and concluding session featured the dance-theatre production “Premer Joware”, inspired by Tagore’s poem Porishodh and the dance drama Shyama. Reimagined in a fresh conceptual format, the piece explored themes of love, sacrifice and emotional depth through layered choreography and dramatic storytelling.

The production, conceptualised and choreographed by Sandip Mallick, stood out for its depth and visual appeal, earning warm appreciation from the audience.

Significantly, the major highlights of the programme are being broadcast across 15 countries through its international media partner, California Television Global, further extending the global reach of this cultural celebration.

More than a cultural programme, “Manane Rabindranath” emerged as a reflective homage — bridging tradition and contemporary expression, while reaffirming the enduring relevance of Tagore’s artistic vision in today’s cultural landscape.
