**Philippines’ Largest Nickel Producer Secures New 3,432-Hectare Mining Area, Signaling Continued Confidence in the Mining Sector**

Philippines’ largest nickel producer, Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), recently announced that its subsidiary, Samar Nickel Mining Resources Corp., has signed an operating agreement with San Juanico Resources Corp. to explore nickel resources in Zambales Province.

Under the agreement, Samar Nickel will acquire the rights to develop and operate the mining area, subject to approval by the Philippine Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).

3,432-Hectare Mining Area Covered

According to disclosed information, the partnership covers mining areas located in the municipalities of Candelaria and Sta. Cruz in Zambales, with a total land area of approximately 3,432 hectares.

The site is covered by a government-issued Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) with a validity period of 25 years.

Nickel Asia said preliminary assessments indicate the presence of nickel and other associated mineral resources in the area. Further exploration activities will be conducted to determine the size of the resource base and its commercial viability.

The companies have not yet disclosed the planned investment amount, exploration budget, or project development timeline.

Nickel Remains a Key Philippine Export Mineral

The Philippines is one of the world’s major nickel suppliers and an important source of nickel ore imports for China.

As demand for nickel continues to grow from the electric vehicle, battery materials, and stainless steel industries, Philippine mining companies have been expanding their resource portfolios to secure future supply.

Nickel Asia’s latest exploration project is primarily a resource-reserve strategy aimed at ensuring long-term ore supply rather than generating immediate production growth.

Although the project remains in the exploration stage and commercial development is still some time away, the agreement comes amid a period of renewed activity in the Philippine mining sector, following the implementation of the country’s new mining tax regime and the reopening of coal block bidding opportunities.
