The Wrestle Kingdom 19 press conference on November 6 saw the official announcement of DOUKI vs El Desperado for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 19.

The usually loquacious El Desperado was relatively reserved in his press conference showing, remarking that ‘I said all I needed to say in Osaka (at Power Struggle),’ but that with two months before Wrestle Kingdom, there would likely be more from him to come. The challenger would admit that ‘I’m not going to sit here and say that I’ve tapped into a version of myself while I’ve been away that you’ve never seen before, or you’ll see a new move you’ve never seen before,’ but that ‘I’ve been feeling frustrated seeing him do well as champion, while I’ve been stuck at home, and you’ll see me let all that frustration out.’

Conversely, the champion was buoyed at the prospect of his first appearance on the main card at Wrestle Kingdom, and in a very prominent spot. DOUKI reminded the assembled press of his schedule as champion so far, comprising four defences in a two month span, and was well aware of the threat his challenger presents. ‘I anticipate El Desperado will come back from his injury even stronger than before, and that’s who I expect,’ he remarked, continuing ‘It’s still two more months away, but I couldn’t be more excited. I don’t plan on losing this or any of my matches. I plan to show the world once again that NJPW junior heavyweight wrestling is the best in the world.’
