Planets have their own way of humbling you

According to the plans I had made for myself, I should have been earning crores by now.

But life almost never goes according to plan, does it?

I chose to go to boarding school in Grade 9 entirely on my own. Looking back, it was such an impulsive decision — one of the best decisions I have ever made, but impulsive nonetheless. In my head, the roadmap was crystal clear: Unison until Grade 10, then Mumbai for junior college, followed by studying abroad.

At least half of it came true.

I never made it to Mumbai (I hope I’ll move there the next month), but I did move to the United Kingdom for my bachelor’s degree. And God, did I learn a lot there. Not just academically, but about life itself. I learned how beautiful life can be when you start living it on your own terms.

Oh, and according to my carefully crafted plans, I was supposed to study Fashion Business.

Instead, I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Accounting & Finance.

Do you see a connection between the two? Because I certainly don’t.

By the third year of university, I was convinced I had everything figured out. I was going to return to India, start my business immediately, and build the life I had envisioned for myself. It all seemed so certain.

Yet here I am, a year later, writing about life instead of having all the answers about what I am meant to do.

The person I thought I would marry? Blocked on every platform.

The business plan I was so sure about? Still waiting to take shape.

The career path I had firmly ruled out? I am now updating my LinkedIn profile and actively exploring job opportunities that genuinely interest me.

The irony is not lost on me.

Please don’t misunderstand me — there is no sadness or resentment behind these reflections. If anything, I am one of the biggest believers that whatever happens, happens for the greater good. All I am trying to say is that life almost never unfolds according to our plans.

And more often than not, that turns out to be a blessing.

I used to think I would never have a job. I was certain I would start my own business from day one and never work for someone else. Not because I thought jobs were inferior, but because I believed that path simply wasn’t meant for me.

Yet life has a funny way of humbling us and expanding our perspectives.

Maybe Saturn in the 10th house really does know what it’s doing.

So, here’s to trusting the detours. Here’s to accepting that not every plan needs to work out exactly as imagined. And here’s to hoping that I soon discover the reason why my original plans didn’t materialise — because perhaps what lies ahead is far better than anything I could have designed for myself.

After all, some of the best things in my life have come from plans that never worked out.
