Samsung is making me watch Saved By The Bell and I have thoughts...

Having ditched the cable box awhile ago, our new Smart TV has free programing that comes on when we are done streaming various paid channels like Disney+

Right at first Family Ties with Michael J Fox seemed to be the most common option. Once Fortnite updates are completed and the PS5 turns off we are now being shown Saved by the Bell (or one of its four iterations: College Years, The New Class and Saved by the Bell 2020).

Because I was slightly older than the crowd it was made for, I only saw bits and pieces of it over the years.

But one person I would see around quite often was Screech (Dustin Diamond) who seemed to like to hang out at Disneyland in his spare time.

For some reason the New Class only featured Screech and Mr. Belding (I had to look that up). Like another popular show (Family Matters), Screech had to perform in a different voice once he reached puberty and was not the youngest actor any more.

Urkel did pretty much the same thing. As the youngest actor on a popular show that went on for years, he had to affect an annoying fake voice for the remaining episodes he played the Steve Urkel character.

Oddly enough when the other lead actors went on to other projects, Screech became the focal point of the New Class.

When things came to an end, Dustin wrote a tell all book before passing away almost a decade later.

Out of all of the original series actors, Mario Lopez is the one that has stayed in the public eye the longest, becoming a permanent feature on Entertainment Tonight.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar is probably the second busiest actor having appeared on NYPD Blue and newer shows like Mixed-ish.

The remaining female cast has worked on various TV shows and projects. Surprisingly no one in the cast later made it into the very top levels of Hollywood.

Anthony Anderson was on a competing high school show and has had a much larger presence in Hollywood.

I’m not sure if any members of the New Class went onto anything else. But every year actors either age out of Hollywood or decide to spend time doing something besides repeating other people’s words.
