Dictatorship of the Law

In our country of laws we live under the dictatorship of the law. The law controls every aspect of our lives. You may think that this is ok. You have nothing to fear as long as you are a law-abiding citizen. But it is enough to be suspected of something to start living in hell. The law is heartless and senseless. This is particularly true when it does not give a damn about justice. The prosecutors’ job is to convict as many people as possible. Thus many innocent people are convicted. Those who can afford expensive lawyers can beat the system.

We give too much power to the law as we give too much power to our Presidents, to the Supreme Court and more generally to the federal government and its forces.

Now too much of anything is bad. Moderation is a virtue that eludes our system. The need to control everybody and everything is a form of obsession that is typical of slave masters. There is no democracy under slave masters.

This is why it is so important to find respite in our local governments. Sanctuary cities express that need in what pertains to the undocumented. A similar service is needed for the average citizen. We need local governments to protect us from the formidable reach of the federal government.

This is why I wish to transform Seattle, the city in which I live, into another Hong Kong. In the same way as there is a need to protect the sanctuary of Hong Kong from the all powerful Chinese government, so also there is a need to create sanctuaries in America.

Just think about this. What I am saying here is constitutionally correct for those who know how to interpret the Ninth and Tenth Amendments.
