Lila’s Pony, Chapter 10 Teaser

Lila’s dad stepped out of the barn when he saw Buttercup approaching fast. Watching her slide to a sudden stop, dancing sideways with the unexpected appearance.

“Dad!” Lila gasped, her heart still racing from the storm. “You scared me!” she said.

Her dad walked up, taking Buttercup’s bridle, his face clouded with worry. “Lila, we’ve been so worried! he said, his voice trembling.

She jumped off Buttercup, wrapping her arms around her father, “Buttercup and I were worried too dad.”

He held her tight for a moment, the storm rumbling in the distance. “Let’s get your pony settled. Your mother’s worried sick, and I need to call the sheriff to let him know you’re safe.”

They quickly unsaddled Buttercup, dried her off, and settled her in her warm stall with hay and oats.

Lila grabbed the letters from her saddlebags, “wait Dad,” she said, holding them out. “These are important. They’re Billy’s, I think they are tied to the grain theft.”
