What Is GHK-Cu — And Why It Matters After 40

I am not a scientist. I am a pastor and entrepreneur from the Sunshine Coast who spent about three months researching a product before I put my name on it.

What I found stopped me in my tracks.

There is a small copper peptide your body produces naturally called GHK-Cu — glycine-histidine-lysine copper. It was first isolated from human plasma in 1973 by a researcher named Dr Loren Pickart and confirmed by Harvard University’s Chemistry Department a few years later. For decades it sat in the literature, quietly studied, rarely discussed outside specialist circles.

Then something changed.

What GHK-Cu Actually Does

GHK-Cu is not a drug. It is not a supplement. It is a signalling molecule your own body makes — and its job, in plain terms, is to tell your body it is time to repair.

Peer-reviewed research published across multiple journals documents what elevated GHK-Cu appears to do:

  • Support collagen synthesis and skin thickness
  • Accelerate wound healing (one study showed diabetic wounds healing three times faster)
  • Support cardiovascular homeostasis
  • Demonstrate antioxidant activity
  • And perhaps most strikingly — suppress the activity of genes associated with aggressive disease progression

None of that is marketing language. That is from the published literature.

The challenge is not what GHK-Cu does. The challenge is what happens to it over time.

The Decline Nobody Talks About

At around age 20, your GHK-Cu levels peak at approximately 200 nanograms per millilitre. By age 60, that figure has dropped to roughly 80 ng/mL. That is a 60% reduction in one of your body’s primary repair signals — happening silently, across decades, as most of us simply accept that ageing means slowing down.

It does not have to.

I am not making a medical claim. I am saying the research raises a serious question: what would happen if you could support your body’s natural production of this peptide without drugs or chemicals?

That question is what led me to X39.

Where Phototherapy Comes In

LifeWave’s X39 patch is a non-transdermal phototherapy device. Nothing enters your body. The patch captures your body’s own infrared energy and reflects specific wavelengths back into acupressure points on your skin — stimulating what researchers describe as a significant increase in GHK-Cu production.

A double-blind randomised controlled trial — conducted with researchers from Oxford University and the University of Wisconsin — showed statistically significant increases in GHK-Cu levels in participants using the patch versus placebo. A separate 50-person double-blind RCT documented improvements in short-term memory, sleep quality, blood pressure and vitality within days of consistent use.

Results may vary. These studies are exploratory. This is not medical advice.

But it is why I stopped being sceptical.

Why This Matters to Me

I came to this as a person of faith who believes the body was designed to heal. I also came to it as someone who spent years watching people — good, hardworking people — accept physical decline as inevitable. Tired at 50. Slower at 55. “Just getting older,” they say.

I don’t think that’s the whole story.

There is a verse I come back to often. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” — 3 John 1:2. That is not a prosperity gospel verse. It is a pastoral wish — that the people we love would flourish in body the way they are trying to flourish in spirit.

GHK-Cu will not fix everything. X39 is not a miracle cure. But supporting your body’s natural repair capacity — with something that has genuine peer-reviewed science behind it — is worth knowing about.

If you want to go deeper on the research, I have put together a full summary at x39forlife.com/research.html.

And if you want to talk through whether this is worth trying for your own situation — book a call with me. No pitch. Just a conversation.
