What is Hidden in Snow

Some thoughts about kitchen appliances

A Swedish proverb claims that even well-hidden evidence will reveal itself at one time or another. The truth, so they say, will emerge, sooner or later.

What is hidden in snow will come forth in the thaw

“Swedes, what do they know?” you think to yourself. “If they did know anything, they might not have been named after an ugly root vegetable.”

“Dishwasher, for example, is an amazing evidence-hiding contraption,” you think, while looking at the blood-dripping, stainless steel, Japanese kitchen knife in your hand. Nevertheless, you feel bad for suggesting not to hand-wash the murder weapon. You know it would make it blunt and require you to spend hours sharpening it, to prepare it for the next opportunity to cut something. Or somebody.

”And then there’s the meat grinder,” you continue your train of thought. “I will chop and mince the meat and put the beef in the freezer. And when the grill season arrives, well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see how juicy those steaks will taste.

”Bork bork bork,” you mumble cheerfully, pretending to be the Muppets’ Swedish chef, while you wear your trusty red-striped apron. ”Today we will be making some delicious thaw burgers!”
