Setting the plate down

A chef once prepared a grand feast. On the table were fresh fruits, warm bread, fragrant rice, and a beautiful dessert he had spent hours perfecting. As the guests arrived, he carefully served every dish, hoping each one would be appreciated.

But one dessert remained untouched.

At first, the chef kept looking at it. He wondered why no one had chosen it. Was it not sweet enough? Was it not beautiful enough? He thought about carrying it from guest to guest, asking someone to take a piece.

Then he paused.

He realized that the value of the dessert did not depend on who ate it. It had been made with care, patience, and love. Some dishes are devoured immediately, some are saved for later, and some simply wait for the right person to enjoy them.

So the chef smiled, covered the dessert, and continued serving the rest of the meal. The feast went on, laughter filled the room, and he no longer watched the untouched plate.

That is quiet strength. It is the ability to stop chasing what does not choose us, to appreciate what we have created, and to let things be without forcing them. Like the chef, we learn that not everything needs to be held onto or understood. Sometimes, peace comes from simply setting the plate down and joining the feast.
