The Millsap Brothers Journey To The Big 3

The Big 3 is a league of opportunity. Sometimes the journey of playing professionally can be abnormal for many prospects. Some people go undrafted or released from their teams. Others don’t even get the opportunity to play at any professional level. Luckily, the Big 3 has been open to everyone. If you have talent, the league will welcome you with open arms and expect you to compete at the highest level.

In basketball, we’ve seen plenty of brothers excel at the highest level. The first ones to come to mind are the Antetokounmpo brothers. While Giannis has taken the league by storm as a champion and multiple-time MVP, the other brothers Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex have all found a way to land on roster spots in the NBA. Another set of brothers is the Holidays with Jrue, Justin, and Aaron.

The Millsap brothers have made an impact on the basketball world. This season, they played together professionally for the first time in the Big 3 for the Aliens. The beauty of the brothers is that they all had different journeys in their careers that led them to be teammates in 2024.

John Millsap

Standing at 6’6, John Millsap has proven to be an elite wing player. He’s a tremendous ball-handler who can score at all three levels. John also has a size advantage against most opposing wings with his size and strength. His journey was a unique one as he played a valuable role at UTSA and eventually became a journeyman as a professional.

Being one of the younger brothers, John had to prove himself on the court. He had to play with a chip on his shoulder to gain respect from his brothers and on the playgrounds as well. It’s safe to say that having a chip on his shoulder helped John prepare for his basketball future.

Wherever John played he made sure to bring his game with him. He played most of his career overseas while also spending time in the NBA D-League with the Utah Flash. Overall, John had a well-respected professional career in every uniform he played for. He received multiple accolades that included an LPB All-Star, LNBP All-Star, and more!

Abraham Milsap

He’s played professionally and is known as a skills trainer. It’s safe to say that Abraham Millsap knows the game of basketball and has competed at the highest level. Millsap was another journeyman who had to make his way around the world in his professional career. Luckily, he was able to maintain and still be a respectable name in basketball.

Being the youngest Millsap means that Abraham had his older brothers to look up to. He was able to witness Paul have a great college career at Louisiana Tech while his other brothers shined for their respective teams as well. What makes Abraham special is his ability to score at all three levels. He was able to show his game on full display during his college career at Tennessee State and it’s carried over to playing for the Aliens in the Big 3.

Paul Milsap

Paul Millsap is the known brother of the Millsap family. He made a name for himself after an illustrious college career at Louisiana Tech and that momentum continued as he had a 16-year NBA career. Paul’s impact on basketball is important. He was a skilled power forward who displayed several big-scoring performances for his team.

What was it that made Paul so skilled? The answer is he was a great low-post scorer. Paul was terrific playing with his back to the basket, using his patience, strength, and skill to score at a high level. Paul was also a great midrange scorer as he could face up, jab, and elevate over defenders. Paul’s offensive ability led him to have one 40-point game followed by multiple 30-point performances.

Playing in the Big 3 was the first time Paul could play next to his brothers at the professional level. Unfortunately, that experience was a short one as he went down with an injury in the Aliens’ first game against the 3 Headed Monsters. While it’s likely that Paul will miss the rest of the season, the chance of playing with his brothers again is still possible. He can rehab and get prepared for next season with another opportunity. Hopefully, it would result in a fully healthy season next to his siblings.
