1. What is your favorite ice cream cone? Oh, Lynn, do you mean type of cone or type of ice cream? My first job, at 15 in 1966, was a scooper at Baskin-Robbins, where we had two types of cones: sugar, which were pointed, and cake, which were flat. And 31 types of ice cream, which I tried one night after the store closed, and it was my turn to clean the freezers. Sixty years later, I’m still eating this treat concocted in heaven. If I had to choose a favorite combination, it would be chocolate ice cream on a pointed cone.

2. Do you always finish everything you start? I do. It’s in my genes, from both sides of my parents’ families. My Baskin-Robbins boss, Wendal Ginsberg, said, on my first official day, “Paul, I can see you wherever you are in the store.” He demanded a perfect 3-ounce scoop, so I said to my mom I want to quit, he’s too mean.” She said, “No way. You’re not a quitter.” I didn’t, and I’m not. It’s as simple as that.

3. Could you eat the same three meals for a week? Yes, easily. Peanut butter on toast for breakfast, cheese and crackers for lunch, and fried chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner.

4. How often do you get together with family? My immediate family, mother, father, and two brothers are dead, with both my younger siblings, Pat and Peter, dying of cancer this past year. I do get together regularly with my son, Ben, and Rebecca’s three children and their families.

5. Do you wear shoes or slippers when in the house? I’ve never worn slippers, but I do wear shoes in the house.

6. If you had to wear one color for a week, what would it be? I think it would be black or navy.

7. Would you rather live in a castle for a week or an RV? I would like the expansiveness of the castle, but I would not like having to lock all the doors at night. I’d like the RV's mobility but not its claustrophobic interior.

8. What stands out about you? Resilience, another way of saying I finish what I start, including life!

9. What is/was your favorite candy? It’s not close, Lynn, a Snickers bar. I’ve traveled quite a bit and try to have this treat wherever I am. Grocery stores across the world, including in Namibia last summer, stocked this sweet and prominently placed it in checkout lines. Funny enough, a Romanian Snickers will taste slightly different from a Namibian one.

10. What is your favorite sea animal? Last summer, we saw Humpback whales off the coast of Namibia. I didn’t get a photo of the two or three that surfaced. This seal was more cooperative.
