Capture the Cold

Despite frigid temperatures, father and daughter get ready to ski together.

This photo was captured at 2:30 pm in Elm Creek, Minnesota, on the 17th of January.

I decided to take pictures in this location because it showed the true spirit of Minnesota winters, despite dropping temperatures and freezing winds, people are eager to get outside and enjoy their day with friends and family.

I was inspired by that moment, particularly because it showed a father helping his daughter and sticking out the cold as they got ready to race down the hill together.

The duo helps create some emotion as people can assume more about the photo than is actually known, wondering if this is something they do often, how they are related, or if they are having fun enjoying the frigid weather.

The skiers in the background show the audience more about what is happening, taking a mental load off the viewer.

Bright snow, dead trees, and the grey-blue sky paint a very clear picture of winter and the spirit of Minnesota.
