MAN 1 Yogyakarta Strengthens Tahfiz Program through Partnership with Al Hamra Krapyak

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — MAN 1 Yogyakarta continues to strengthen its Qur’anic memorization program through the Extra Tahfiz Program. This year, the program has been developed with a more structured mentoring system through a partnership with Al Hamra Krapyak.

The Extra Tahfiz Program is held regularly every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. To support the learning process, the school provides a dedicated classroom where students can memorize and recite their Al-Qur’an memorization in a comfortable, focused, and supportive environment.

Unlike previous years, this year’s Extra Tahfiz Program is strengthened by the involvement of three female teachers from Al Hamra Krapyak who directly mentor the students. Their guidance is aimed at helping students increase their memorization, improve the quality of their recitation and memorization, and achieve their targets in a more organized way.

Principal of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, Edi Triyanto, S.Ag., S.Pd., M.Pd., said that strengthening the Extra Tahfiz Program is part of the school’s commitment to creating an educational environment that not only supports academic achievement but also develops students’ Qur’anic character.

“We hope that this partnership with Al Hamra Krapyak will further improve the quality of tahfiz guidance at MAN 1 Yogyakarta. Students are not only encouraged to increase the amount of their memorization, but are also guided to maintain its quality and, ultimately, reflect the values of the Qur’an in their attitudes and daily lives,” he said.

According to Edi, having competent mentors and a more organized mentoring system is important to help students develop their potential in Qur’anic memorization.

“The school wants to provide as much space as possible for students who have an interest and potential in memorizing the Qur’an. Therefore, the guidance must be carried out seriously, continuously, and with the support of partners who have expertise in this field,” he added.

The strengthened Extra Tahfiz Program is also part of the preparation for the MAN 1 Yogyakarta Tahfiz Appreciation Program, which is scheduled to take place in October 2026. Through more intensive mentoring, students are expected to better prepare their memorization achievements in terms of both quantity and quality.

The Tahfiz Appreciation Program is one of MAN 1 Yogyakarta’s religious development programs. It is designed to recognize students’ efforts, consistency, and achievements in memorizing the Al-Qur’an. In the 2025 Tahfiz Appreciation Program, a total of 179 students received recognition for memorizing between 2 and 30 juz.

This achievement has encouraged the school to continue improving the quality of its tahfiz program. In addition to increasing student participation, the school is also working to strengthen the quality of mentoring and help students maintain their memorization over time.

Moving forward, the partnership between MAN 1 Yogyakarta and Al Hamra Krapyak is also planned to include certificates for program participants. The certificates are expected to serve as a form of appreciation as well as recognition of the students’ learning process and achievements throughout the tahfiz program.

Through this strengthened program, Extra Tahfiz is expected to grow beyond an additional after-school activity and become a structured and continuous space for Qur’anic learning. The program is also part of MAN 1 Yogyakarta’s effort to foster students’ love for the Al-Qur’an and nurture a Qur’anic generation capable of preserving, understanding, and applying its values in daily life.
