From prototype to product: The kinetic toy from 2015 is finally available

A while back, I wrote about the making of LINKKI — the ideas behind it, the prototypes, and the dream of turning a linkage mechanism into something anyone could build with. If you haven’t read it, you can find it here.

Products of linkkiproject

Over the past ten years, LINKKI has been tested in workshops and exhibitions across Finland, the US, and Korea — at Aalto University, Heureka Science Centre, and Exploratorium San Francisco, among others. Those years of hands-on experience with educators, makers, and students shaped what LINKKI is today as a commercial product.

In 2023, LINKKI received the Core77 Design Award. Today, it is carried by institutions including the Museum of the Future in Dubai and MMCA (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) in Seoul. In 2025, LINKKI held its 10th anniversary exhibition, “Possibility of Connections” (Seoul, Korea), presenting collaborative works with artists across painting, photography, graphic design, and comics, as can be seen below.

The current product line includes four items:
