How often should you clean your make up brushes?

How often should we be cleaning these?

There are a lot of good — actually great reasons to treat your brushes well:

1. You have probably paid a good bit of money for some if not all of them and that’s an investment worth taking care of;
2. You use them a lot and that means they are caked in bacteria that can lead to break-outs;
3. You use a lot of different colours on them and sometimes that means you get a streak of dark brown on your eyes when you only wanted to use the ivory from your palette.

This little gizmo really does make the whole process much quicker and it’s great that the brushes are completely dried as it means you can use them straight away. You can use the StylePro cleanser or you can use water and a gentle good quality cleanser.

So, how often should you clean your brushes? I did a little research and the answer seems to be that if you use them daily that you should at minimum be washing them once a month. I thought that seemed quite long and would have guessed that at least once a week was the minimum but dermatologists and beauty bloggers have told us that once a month is the minimum.

I would suggest though that if you are someone who uses a lot of heavy pigmented colours be it eyeshadows, contouring etc. and you don’t have a lot of brushes that you should be doing this a little more often. Also, if you find that you do suffer with break-outs I’d go at least every two weeks and see if you notice an improvement with your skin.
