What Are Nutrient Injections and Are They Actually Worth It?

One of the most common things we hear from patients after their first GLOW Bar appointment is some version of: “It actually worked!” They came in curious, maybe a little skeptical, and left pleasantly surprised. That reaction makes sense, since nutrient injections don’t get the same buzz as injectables or laser treatments, so most people don’t know what to expect.

Here’s what we tell them about what nutrient injections actually do, who they’re for and whether they’re worth adding to your wellness routine.

How nutrient injections work

When you take a supplement orally, your body has to absorb it through the digestive system. That process is inefficient. Depending on the nutrient, your gut health and many other variables, you might actually absorb anywhere from 20% to 50% of what you swallowed. The rest gets processed out before it ever reaches your cells.

An injection bypasses all of that. The nutrient goes directly into the muscle and from there into the bloodstream, which means the body absorbs close to 100% of it almost immediately. For people who are genuinely deficient in something or who want targeted support for a specific concern, that difference really matters.

Types of nutrient injections

At Alora, we offer a curated menu of nutrient injections through our GLOW Bar. We’ve given each one a name that fits our vibe, but the formulations behind them are clinically sound. The right one for you will depend on your specific wellness needs and goals.

  • B12 (part of our LIPO B shot) is probably the most well-known nutrient injection. It plays a role in energy production, neurological function and red blood cell formation. A lot of people are more deficient than they realize, especially vegetarians, vegans and anyone who takes proton pump inhibitors long-term. Many of our patients notice a difference in energy and mental clarity within just a day or two.
  • B-Complex (the Alora Mule) expands on that by combining multiple B vitamins, including B1, B2, B5 and others, that support everything from digestion to immune function to sleep. It’s a broad-spectrum option that works well for people whose diets aren’t as varied as they’d like, or who are going through a high-stress period that’s depleting their B vitamin stores faster than usual.
  • MIC injections (the Alora Skinny Margarita) combine methionine, inositol and choline, three compounds with a strong connection to fat metabolism. Methionine is an amino acid antioxidant that aids in breaking down fat and building lean muscle. Inositol supports metabolism of fat and cholesterol. Choline plays a role in heart health and helps reduce fat accumulation in the liver. Together, they’re a natural fit for those working on weight management goals alongside diet and movement.
  • Glutathione (the Alora Cosmo) is having a well-deserved moment right now. It’s one of the body’s most powerful antioxidants, involved in detoxification, inflammation reduction and skin brightness. Patients who want a more luminous complexion from the inside out are increasingly drawn to this one, and for good reason. It’s sometimes even called the “master antioxidant.”
  • Lysine (the Alora Lemon Drop) is a little less talked about but genuinely useful for people dealing with fatigue, slow tissue repair or immune challenges. It supports energy production and mental clarity in a way that’s distinct from the B vitamin family.

Who can benefit?

The obvious candidates are people with confirmed deficiencies — B12 deficiency in particular is extremely common and often goes undiagnosed for years. But even those without a clinical deficiency can feel a real difference, especially if they’re dealing with chronic fatigue, low immunity, sluggish metabolism or skin concerns that haven’t responded to topical treatments alone.

We also see a lot of patients who would describe themselves as perfectly healthy using nutrient injections proactively, such as athletes who want faster recovery, busy professionals managing energy through demanding seasons or anyone who just wants to feel more like themselves during a draining stretch of life. You don’t need to be visibly struggling to justify this kind of support.

The appointments themselves are quick. Most shots take just a few minutes, and there’s no downtime afterward.

How often do you need them?

The answer depends on what you’re getting and why. For B12, patients with a deficiency or absorption issue often benefit from weekly shots initially before tapering to monthly maintenance. For general energy support, once or twice a month is a common cadence. MIC injections for metabolic support are typically recommended 1 to 4 times monthly alongside a healthy diet and regular movement.

Glutathione and other antioxidant shots are often done in a series at first, then maintained monthly. We’ll always help you figure out a cadence that matches your actual goals rather than putting you on a generic schedule.

One thing we like to set expectations around upfront is that some effects, like the energy boost from B12, can be felt fairly quickly — sometimes within a day or two. Others, like glutathione’s skin-brightening benefits, build gradually over several weeks. Knowing that going in makes the experience a lot more satisfying.

How they pair with other treatments

Nutrient injections pair naturally with treatments that place demands on the body. Microneedling, for example, involves controlled skin injury that triggers the body’s repair process. Getting a glutathione or B-Complex shot around the time of a microneedling session gives your body extra resources to work with during healing. Similarly, patients doing laser skin rejuvenation often use glutathione between sessions to support overall skin health.

For patients working on body composition, whether through our truSculpt iD treatments, dietary changes or weight loss support, MIC injections fit naturally as metabolic support alongside that work.

So are nutrient injections “worth it?”

If you’re deficient in something, yes, almost certainly. If you’re not deficient but dealing with a specific concern like energy, skin brightness, immunity or metabolism, the answer is probably yes too, as long as you’re choosing the right injection for what you’re actually experiencing.

What we always want our patients to understand is that nutrient injections work best as part of a broader approach to wellness, not as a standalone solution. That’s consistent with how we think about everything at Alora — we’re not here for quick fixes. We’re here to help you build something that actually lasts.

If you’re curious about whether any of our GLOW Bar options would be a good fit, we encourage you to check out the treatment planner on the Alora Wellness & Spa website or give us a call. We’d love to help you figure out what makes sense for where you are right now.
