Space Madness: The Lost 1991 Cartoon That Erased Itself

[CLASSIFICATION: SOMATIC ARCHIVE // EYES ONLY] [RECOVERY DATE: APRIL 2026 // LOCATION: CORNWALL, ON] It Started With a Button Before the Time Police, before the Temporal Shredder, before the 19.8 kHz hum became a weapon — there was a backyard in Cornwall and two dogs who got bored.

My name is redacted. I am the Archive Director. For 34 years, Issue 1 of Buster's Guide was considered a myth. A creepypasta kids told at St. Lawrence Secondary about a cartoon that made you hear static.

We found it in a rusted View-Master on Second Street West. It was real. FILE 01: BACKYARD STABILITY SCAN The first panel is a lie. It shows a perfect 1991 Cornwall summer — sprinkler, fence, two dogs. Buster (golden retriever) and Shadow (black lab mix) staring at a book.

The right side of the panel is already wrong. The grass is turning into the hull of a spaceship. The sky has scanlines.

Stability: 98%. That 2% is where we lost them

ISSUE 1: SPACE MADNESS (1991) This is the cover they pulled from TV. Buster and Shadow find a manual called BLUTBUS in a Cornwall backyard. Stability: 98%.

FILE 02: THE HISTORY ERASER Shadow finds the button. It's candy-red, glowing, and labeled in a language that isn't German but looks like it. BLUTBUS.

The 19.8 kHz tone starts here. If you were in Cornwall in 1991, you know this sound — the high whine from every CRT at the Square. Kids could hear it. Adults pretended they couldn't.

In the comic, it's drawn as a visual vibration around Shadow's eye. He's seeing the code underneath reality.

PAGE 2: The yard starts to unrender. Left side = sunny 1991. Right side = spaceship hull. You can hear the 19.8 kHz hum starting here.

FILE 03: THE INTERSTITIAL BRIDGE This is where the cartoon was pulled from broadcast.

The backyard completely un-renders. No fade. No dissolve. One frame it's there, the next it's a dieselpunk locomotive bridge floating in white space.

Buster says: "I do not touch that candy-like... GLOWING... RED..."

Shadow reaches anyway.

This is the Interstitial Bridge — the loading screen between realities. Cornwall Labs built it in 1987 to move equipment. Buster and Shadow walked onto it by accident.

PAGE 3: Shadow sees the History Eraser Button for the first time. It’s reflected in his eye. Buster: "I do not touch that candy-like... GLOWING... RED..."

FILE 04-05: THE CLICK The sound effect is just the word CLICK in white letters.

When Shadow presses it, the entire town goes silent. The comic shows this by removing all background detail. No birds. No trees. Just the button and the dogs.

This is a History Eraser event. It's not deleting the past. It's deleting the render of the past.

PAGE 4: The backyard is gone. They’re standing on a floating dieselpunk bridge in white space. This is the loading screen between realities.

PAGE 5: He pressed it. CLICK. The sound of Cornwall — birds, lawnmowers, everything — drops to 0dB. This frame gave kids headaches in 1991.

FILE 06: SYSTEM REBOOT The final panel is why parents called the station.

White void. A shattered computer terminal. A magenta gateway pulsing in the distance. Buster, smiling: "I can still hear the hum."

There is no punchline. The episode ends.

Test audiences in 1991 reported nausea, headaches, and hearing a high-pitched whine for hours after. Three kids from Cornwall claimed their backyard "looked like the cartoon" for a week.

The show was erased that night.

What BLUTBUS Actually Means We ran it through the archive. BLUTBUS is a corruption of "Blutwurst" — a flyer for a German deli that operated on Pitt Street in 1989. The manual wasn't a manual. It was an advertisement that got pulled into the Somatic field and became a key.
