Equality or Equity?
That is the question, isn’t it?
Equality or Equity?
That is the question, isn’t it?
For readers who don’t know the difference. Equality is to have everyone in question treated with the same rights, opportunities, and status. The key word being treated, not thought of. On the other hand, equity is to achieve fairness by accommodating to all different needs, only then leveling to be of same recognition.
To say it is impossible to make everyone pleased, no matter what path you go down… is an understatement. An important one, though, when deciding how the world must run.
Everyone is different, to say the least, but here is my take.
Everyone must be recognized of equal importance and priority. Recognized, not treated. Treatment must come as equity, only out of fairness and opportunity.
Should equality out-rule any other alternative, it simply becomes a sick mix of patriarchal communism of preaching that everyone is the same and can do the same. That there’s no hierarchy and that everyone should be everyone, no one should be anyone. It get to the point in which equality would be lost; Because of the equal treatment, those of initial “less” would fall behind while those with initial “more” would climb. Climb that staircase of better that supposedly didn’t exist. It simply loses its’ meaning.
Though, should only Equity rule out, there comes a back-handed and ill-intentioned aftertaste. Recognizing the different needs is, of course, very important. Once it becomes segregating and dividing the people into these strange social club-groups, that is when the difference becomes stigmatized, often negatively.
Now, this is not to say that difference is bad. Not at all, difference is the soul of being ones’ own, and that is above all when discussing opinions. This is to say when the apparent distance between these social clubs becomes a split, issues arrive. It acts as an acknowledgement of inferiority to these people of “less”. Then, those of the social club that don’t seem to lack in anything, those with a smooth-sailing life, they recognize that inferiority. They embody that labeled better-ness of theirs. That is when problems arise. When such a capability difference becomes so publicized, it causes that rift in humanity. When speaking about inferiority, it is not to refer to a social status, it refers to mental and genuine learning, growth, and ability weaknesses. The social status is the result of the difference propaganda.
With all the waves and shakes in humanity now, we really don’t need anything more.
So, to re-state my point:
Everyone should be recognized equally but treated with equity to be able to have a chance.
