- If you couldn’t afford to give a store-bought gift for a friend’s birthday, would you make them a homemade present or skip the gift-giving altogether?
I would probably make them something. There are neat ideas on Pinterest. I might also bring them one of my thriving houseplants. I do have some lovely ones.
2. What do you do with your change? Do you save it in a piggy bank or spend it with your dollar bills?
My husband has a bowl on his dresser. I put it in there. He gets coin wrappers and then brings the wrapped coins to the bank. It’s like found money when he hands me the bills.
3. If you could design the next ten-dollar bill, would you print a picture of someone you know or someone famous you admire?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg comes to mind. It’s about time we got some ladies in our currency!
4. If you inherited a large sum of money and the instructions gave you a choice, would you spend it on yourself or a registered charity? You can’t do both.
That’s a tough one. I would really like to give most of it to help the homeless in this country and have a small portion to live comfortably in my home, but if I had to pick one, I would say give it to the homeless. They need it more than I do. I could not imagine not having a home to call my own.
5. If a store gave you back counterfeit money, would you go to the police or back to the store and confront the manager?
I’d go to the police. The store had nothing to do with it unless, of course, they were a counterfeiting operation. Definitely let the police handle that!
6. You won a free trip on a month-long trip to Europe, but to claim it, you must work one hour in the top-of-the-line kitchen preparing breakfast or in the bustling casino aiding the dealer for one week. Which would you choose?
That’s easy. I would prepare breakfast. Food is always an incentive for me. At this point in my life, anything related to a casino is too stressful.
7. If you loaned one hundred dollars to your friend, would you prefer they repay you in cash or transfer the money into your bank account? Why?
I would prefer they pay me in cash. That way, they can thank me in person for loaning them the money and I could thank them for paying it back. Maybe we could go for a meal together to celebrate our friendship.
8. You’ve won this year’s model Corvette convertible. Do you keep it or sell it?
A 76-year-old woman couldn’t get out of that sports car without breaking a hip. That would be embarrassing when the EMTs show up to that scene. I would probably give it to my grandson, who loves Corvettes.
9. Which is more appealing: Paying for merchandise with money or through bartering products and services?
There’s not much I can barter anymore so paying would be my preference. Also, if the other person didn’t live up to their end of the deal, it could cause a problem. For example, I walk your dog for two weeks in return for you changing the oil in my car. I wouldn’t be too happy having to bring my car to Jiffy Lube. I might send you a bill for dog walking, so there!
It’s best to pay your own way!
10. Is money the root of all evil or the gateway to a beautiful life?
It can be either, but I feel it is the gateway to a beautiful life. Any money I’ve had since I put myself on a budget years back has been used wisely and enjoyably. Thank heavens, I haven’t drunk in over 30 years, I could see money going down the drain with booze along with my soul.
