Hey Toronto! This Saturday, take a walk on the Riverside!
Jane’s Walk is partnering with Riverside BIA to bring you the 5th annual WalkFEST on October 26th. As always, all walks are free!
On October 26th Riverside is the place to be. Jane’s Walk is partnering with Riverside to bring you nine unique walks lead by local personalities.
Highlights: Nell & Natasha’s Annual Pumpkin Give Away (11am-3pm), Jimmie Simpson Recreation Centre’s Haunted House (11am-3pm), as well as fun children’s activities offered by Riverside’s Charity partner, The Ralph Thornton Centre.
Riverside WalkFEST walking tours are all hosted on the new Jane’s Walk registration website. Click the links below to register for free:
- 9am: Fitness/Dog Walk With an intro with the City of Toronto’s fit team who let us know how to be health and how you can access pedometers for free! Continue on with a Dog walk to explore our dog-friendly businesses, parks, alleys and the Riverside itself. Led by: EnergyXchange and Fit Dogs. Register for this walk.
- 11am: Savory Culinary Walk A moveable feast in all things culinary, this walk highlights savory good eats on the east side. Led by Chef Scott Savoie from Culinary Adventures. Register for this walk.
- 11am: Historical Street Walk Rolling back the hands of time, we uncover the history and anecdotes on how Riverside’s streets got their names. Led by Riverside aficionado Ron Fletcher. Register for this walk.
- 12pm: Medicinal Plant & Herb Walk Assessing common weeds and herbs and finding out their health and medicinal properties while taking a stroll through some of Riverside’s Parks and Gardens. Led by Clinical Herbalist Danette Steele. Register for this walk.
- 2pm: Constructing Riverside: Urban Planning Walk: This walk examines the materials and techniques used to build Riverside’s historic Victorian and Edwardian buildings and homes as well as look at the history of larger infrastructure like the streetcar line, rail line, historical property divisions, Queen Street Bridge, and moves into planning of present day developments. Led by urbanist Adrian Lightstone and Grid Senior Editor, Edward Keenan. Register for this walk.
- 2:30pm: Sweet Culinary Walk — Get a taste of Riverside’s sweet side. This tour is a walking indulgence with stops at cup cakeries, bakeries, and chocolate shops, with a surprise floral indulgence. Led by Chef Scott Savoie from Culinary Adventures. Register for this walk.
- 3pm: Kiddie Costume Parade Walk: Parade costumes through participating Riverside businesses, where kids will receive all sorts of fun treats (parent attendance required). Led by the Ralph Thornton Centre. Register for this walk.
- 4pm: Art & Fashion and Design Walk : This walk gives a behind the scenes peak on Riverside’s eclectic Art, Fashion, and Design and gives a few design tips and tricks along the way. Led by Covet Garden Design Magazine. Register for this walk.
- 6pm: Riverside Night Life Walk: An idiosyncratic tour of some of the popular and off-beat social and entertainment spaces in Riverside. Led by former Jane’s Walk Director and local resident Jane Farrow and East Ender Rachel Conduit. Register for this walk.

An idiosyncratic tour of some of the popular and offbeat social and entertainment spaces in Riverside.
Walk Leaders: Jane Farrow, former founding Jane’s Walk director and well-known city builder committed to walkability, Jane has been a CBC radio host, best-selling author, lecturer, dynamic facilitator, and local resident.
Rachel Conduit, Local East-ender, Rachel has spearheaded community garden projects, the East End Icon calendar — highlighting the area’s unsung heroes, the East End Bike Ride, plus is the owner of the former “The Avro” in Riverside and “Handlebar” in Kensington Market.
