The Saboteur Deserves a Remake, and I’ll Tell You Why

If this is your first time hearing about this game, don’t stress, I’ve got you covered. The Saboteur takes place in Nazi-occupied Paris in the 1940s. You play as Sean Devlin, an Irish race car driver with a personal grudge and simply nothing to lose. You team up with a bold Frenchman by the name of Luc Gaudin, who just happens to be the leader of the French Resistance.

The first mission takes Sean and Luc to wreak havoc on a few Nazis. You take them out and destroy their supplies, and suddenly the black-and-white game starts turning into color. Did I mention the game is in black and white? Once you liberate an area, color returns, granting the game a special reward. Not only are you destroying Nazis, but also bringing back life to your surroundings. The world literally brightens the more you fight back, as if hope itself is being restored. Oh, and you can climb buildings, ride different cars, and have a myriad of weapons to choose from. Think Grand Theft Auto and Assassin’s Creed set in the 1940s.

The story hit differently, too. Sean isn’t some noble hero; he’s angry, grieving, and running on revenge after losing his best friend to the Nazis. That’s a real, human motivation. It wasn’t about saving the world; it was about one man refusing to let injustice go unanswered.

So why are we not talking about this game in 2026? Why hasn’t a single studio looked at The Saboteur and said, “We need to bring this back.”

Pandemic Studios shut down right after releasing it. No sequel was ever made. A masterpiece of a concept just… stopped. And that genuinely upsets me. Not at the game, but in the industry. We live in an era where remakes and remasters come out every other month, Resident Evil, Dead Space, and Silent Hill, and I love all of that. But where is The Saboteur? Where is the studio willing to take this world, rebuild it with modern graphics, expand Paris, deepen Sean’s story, and give this game the audience it always deserved?

So this is me putting it out there: The Saboteur deserves a remake. A real one. Not a port, not a remaster, a full reimagining with the love and budget this concept has always earned. Pandemic may be gone, but the idea isn’t.

Have you played The Saboteur? Do you think it’s time someone brought it back?
