My 8-Week AI-Assisted Coding Journey with Andela AI Academy

Learning new technologies often starts with curiosity.

But sometimes, it begins with an opportunity.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to participate in the AI-Assisted Coding Learning Program organised by the Andela AI Academy. The programme focused on helping developers understand how to use AI-powered tools to improve productivity and code quality.

For eight weeks, I immersed myself in learning how to build smarter and faster with GitHub Copilot.

It was an experience that strengthened both my technical skills and my perspective on the future of software development.

The Beginning of the Journey

The programme officially began on March 2, 2026.

Participants were welcomed into the AI-Assisted Coding Learning Program with a clear goal: to help developers leverage artificial intelligence to write better code and become more productive.

The programme ran for eight weeks, divided into two main phases:

• Four weeks of learning • Four weeks of preparation for certification

Throughout the journey, the focus remained clear — understanding how AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot can support developers in building applications more efficiently.

Learning to Code with AI

One of the most exciting parts of the programme was learning how to integrate AI into the development workflow.

With GitHub Copilot, developers can:

• generate code suggestions
• automate repetitive coding tasks
• explore faster ways to build applications
• improve overall productivity

During the programme, we explored how AI can assist in writing functions, debugging code, and even helping developers think through complex programming problems.

Rather than replacing developers, tools like Copilot augment the way we work, helping us move from idea to implementation faster.

For me, this experience reinforced an important idea:

The future of software development is not just about writing code — it’s about collaborating with intelligent tools to build better solutions.

Beyond the Technical Skills

While the programme focused heavily on technical learning, it was also a reminder of the power of community and mentorship.

Behind every successful learning experience is a team of people who guide and support the journey.

Technology is evolving quickly.

Developers who learn how to work alongside AI will be better positioned to innovate, build faster, and solve complex problems.

This programme was a powerful reminder that continuous learning is essential in the tech industry.

Looking Ahead

The knowledge gained during this eight-week journey will continue to influence how I approach software development.

AI-assisted coding is no longer a futuristic idea — it is already shaping how modern developers build applications.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and be part of a community of developers exploring these tools together.
