In That Moment

Today I noticed a man’s impressive mustache and told him so.

He looked surprised — maybe even a little unsure — so I said,

“For real! It’s impressive. What do you use?”

He turned red.

Another guy noticed and chimed in, agreeing.

Finally, he said, “Beeswax.”

You could see a spark of pride peek through.

I asked, “Any specific brand? My guy’s working on his.”

That’s when his smile really showed.

He started explaining, giving details —

and before long, three of us were admiring his handiwork.

As he walked away, he looked back and smiled.

I smiled too.

Then I noticed two numbers on his hat…

and suddenly, in that moment, his quiet hesitation made sense.

I felt a little sad —

but I kept smiling.

Because sometimes, even the briefest moments of kindness

can mean more than we’ll ever know.
