Announcing the new shesaid.so x Mixmag partnership
Bringing together likeminded voices in club culture, dance & electronic music
Announcing the new shesaid.so x Mixmag editorial partnership
Amplifying the voices of womxn in club culture, dance & electronic music

Mixmag has continuously championed artists, innovators, local dance music communities and emerging cultural trends be it in print, online, or on film for over three decades. shesaid.so is therefore excited to announce the coming together of our networks, to form a sort of hive mind, one that aims to make a difference, celebrate the power of connection and collaboration and above all, supports the talented women working in music and the aspiring professionals of tomorrow looking for a way in.
This will bring member-generated, curated and focused content into the magazine on a monthly basis to build and maintain a genuine dialogue between the members of shesaid.so and Mixmag’s audience.
*“We’ve watched with no little admiration as shesaid.so has steadily become perhaps the most innovative and powerful community for change in dance music and club culture in 2019. We want to open a genuine dialogue with its members that will help us reflect and celebrate their values and achievements.” (Duncan Dick, Editor, Mixmag)*
Mixmag are keen to showcase members’ work, whether you are a pro behind the camera, an avid illustrator or a writer with a story to tell, this is a platform to share your work in a way that authentically and organically reflects your experiences and promotes your values. Below are a few examples of potential content from Mixmag Staff Writer, Jasmine Kent-Smith, to get the ball rolling, but please also feel free to share your ideas via this form.
At present, we are aiming to kick off our collaboration in the November issue, with a content deadline of September 20 2019.
How can I contribute?
**Examples of ideas / templates / formats ***
- Celebrate or profile your mentors / heroes / inspirations or spotlight unsung heroes (‘hidden figures’) in dance music and club culture past or present
- Investigate / profile scenes / collectives doing good work
- Opinion pieces: you could produce comment pieces on topical issues
- Business ‘hacks’ and advice for women in the music industry, for / from everybody from freelancers to industry players to big name artists and DJs
- Inspirational stories i.e. ‘my biggest challenge in the music industry and how I overcame it’
- shesaid.so have 15 chapters around the world, it would be good to hear direct from members about your local stars, the people changing the game, or the clubs and artists doing things in a different way
- This won’t be limited to text — we can also accommodate art, illustration, photography etc. as long as it fits / has a link to the shesaid.so values
- Content can be directly produced by members or/and you could suggest things for us to write about, or we could write in your voice (see ‘This Must Be The Place’, ‘The Life’ in the current magazine). Payment will be at the usual freelance rates where content is member produced.
“Electronic music and club culture continue to foster one of the most open and forward-thinking communities in music so it’s crucial for the female voice to be heard in that space. Partnering with Mixmag to give our community of women the chance to have their voices amplified then becomes so significant. I’m truly excited to unearth what they are passionate about, be that in writing or visual form.” (Andreea Magdalina, Founder, shesaid.so)
