Looking back at the podcast about the craze of the nation during the pandemic

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Let’s go back four years ago to the height of COVID-19 when most of us were sheltered in place and bored out of our minds. For some, in walks in an interesting-looking man with a mullet and ball cap that calls himself the Tiger King. The show, Tiger King, on Netflix took over popular culture, following along with the story of Joe Exotic in Oklahoma as he ran a very questionable drive-by zoo with tigers and all other kinds of animals. The antics of the southern-accented man who attempted to pull off a murder for hire of his biggest villain in Florida. But some folks wanted to dive deeper into the story and hear details that the big streaming company may have left out.

Wondery is a podcast company that aims to interview folks and tell their story with a more in-depth analysis. This podcast show told the story in a deeper meaning held me captive and helped me focus with it playing through my earbuds as I went back to my warehouse job. The original interviews with callbacks to what people may have seen on Netflix were captivating. But held even more originality through their deeper look into some of the topics of the people who did not get their full story told.

At the time, this podcast had great proximity and timeliness for those who were interested in this topic. Some viewers took a whole day to watch all of the Exotic escapades they could handle. Some craved more even after and may have had time to do so. But Wondery did not rely on or try to reuse interviews from the hit show. They went out and did their own with who they could for the Tiger King storyline. Giving people who loved the show a fix after finishing the show.

The impact of time on the show was prominent in not only showing the importance of the show but also how it even birthed a multi-episode podcast to follow. The story of underfed, often abused tigers showed the oddity of the story that often related to the impact. Something like this journey could not be covered by one source of media, which is why this audio is great to add.

The sound mixing going from narration to interviews did not create an awkward jarring experience when leaving the audio on throughout the day. Creating an experience genuinely needed for something like this audio storytelling to be popular.

When telling a story, this piece of media can be a helpful resource for what to do. Not only to tell the story but how to divide the tale into multiple episodes that could easily be digested.
