Already Ashes

The dragon breath of the sun Spares nothing, no-one. It flicks its forked tongue Against this dying planet.
It'll scorch the earth Till there's nowhere left to run, Everywhere the heat of the flame And the people who'll fan it.
And we, like dead trees Either immobile or unmoved Will gaze upon the hellscape With tears that evaporate
As we await our turn To be the ones that burn, For while arsonists hold the matches, We're already ashes.
