The Days We Thought Were Just Days

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much of life happens without us realising it.

Not the big moments.

The small ones.

The random phone calls. The five-minute conversations. The times you almost didn’t go somewhere but did anyway.

At the time, they don’t feel important.

You’re just living your day.

But years later, those are often the moments that come back to you.

I still remember things that made no sense to remember.

The way someone laughed.

A drive with no destination.

Sitting with a friend and talking about absolutely nothing.

I don’t remember what day it was. I don’t remember what I was wearing.

But I remember how it felt.

That’s what surprises me.

We spend so much time chasing the big things in life that we forget most of our happiness comes from ordinary days.

Not every meaningful moment announces itself.

Most of them pass quietly.

And only later do you realise they mattered.

I’ve learned this the hard way.

There were times I thought life would always look the way it did.

That certain people would always be around.

That there would always be another conversation, another visit, another chance.

Sometimes there was.

Sometimes there wasn’t.

That’s probably why I pay attention a little more now.

Not perfectly.

I still rush through days. I still get distracted.

But every now and then, I stop and remind myself:

This might be one of those moments I miss someday.

Not because it’s extraordinary.

Because it’s happening now.

And one day, “now” becomes a memory.

I think that’s something we forget.

A lot of the things we’re living today are things our future selves will look back on and wish they could visit one more time.

Just for a minute.

Just to sit there again and not know how the story ends.

What’s one conversation from years ago that you still remember — and what made it stay with you?
