Here’s a secret... I am terrified of heights. So when Goodyear gave ABB the opportunity to ride in the Goodyear Blimp, I precipitously jumped at the chance. I thought it would be great to shoot a video about the energy transition from above Daytona. However, nervous about speaking on video up high in the air.
We lifted off, and the blimp floated gracefully. It felt like a ship gently rocking on a calm sea. NASCAR driver David Ragan and I talked about the energy transition on the grid below.
The energy transition is more than transportation. There is a growing demand for electricity in manufacturing, data centers, buildings, and transportation. Utilities need to meet demand while reducing emissions.
After shooting the video, we could enjoy the ride. We saw dozens of dolphins in the water below. I “Face-timed” my wife and children so they could share the experience. No fear.
