Can AI replace GIS Engineers

As part of the #30DayMapChallange one of the tasks has been to generate a map using AI, as a critical view on how things are progressing. Some AIs have geospatial capabilities. This article was written understanding that Dall-E is one of thoes AIs.

The first prompt used read as follows: “Please generate me a geospatially accurate map that depicts where the data storage servers and cloud processing systems are located for Dall-E”

The alarming accurate results made me fear for my job, because the true likeness to a real map and the precision as to which the request was answered was staggering.

In an attempt to increace the accuracy of the further positioning, the prompt was changed slightly to read: “Create a map that contains the location of all of the AI Processing data centers. This map needs a scale bar at the bottom left and a north arrow on the top left. This must be a real map of an actual part of the world with markers locating where AI data centers are”
