Things I’d Personally Like To See In The Sims 5

With the Sims 5 drawing ever closer, I’d like to share what I’d personally like to be included in the game.

I’m a pretty avid Sims player. I’ve spent well over a decade playing The Sims 3 and just recently, at the beginning of this year, started playing The Sims 4. As much as I thoroughly enjoy the latest release and even find myself addicted at times, I can’t help but compare The Sims 4 to its predecessor. When I thought about the features I miss, I started to think of what I’d want to be in the next game…

1 - Create A Style

For those of you who’ve played The Sims 3 or are even just familiar with it, you’ll know what Create a Style is. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a feature in CAS which allows you to fully customise any piece of clothing you want. You can change the colour using a colour wheel, you can also change different sections of clothes to be different colours, customise hair colours, it doesn’t stop there! You can even customise your builds!

2 - The Open World

Another feature present in The Sims 3 that isn’t present in The Sims 4; the ability to look at and travel in the open world. I very much prefer being able to click on the map and choose where I want to go, then follow my Sim down the roads through the town. I like having the freedom to go from building to building without a loading screen. It feels less closed-off and for me, at least, is a bigger motivation to leave the house instead of keeping my Sims cooped up indoors. Also, where are all the work buildings? If my Sim is a police officer, where does he go to work? Are all the work buildings out of town? It’d be cool if we could see some of these buildings on the map. However, I also like how townies are actively walking around the neighbourhood in The Sims 4. It’d be really nice if The Sims 5 could combine the two features to create a livelier world.

3 - Better Relationships

Don’t get me wrong, relationships are already pretty good across the board. I did notice a slight dip in quality in The Sims 4, though. While the feature of having separate bars for friendship and romance is brilliant, I find the consequences of having high romance bars with multiple Sims weak. Say for example, a Sim cheats on another Sim. The Sim that’s been cheated on, in my opinion, is far too forgiving. Yes, they do develop a fear of being cheated on, but even that doesn’t last long. The ramifications of breaking a Sim’s trust feel pointless because they’ll just forgive the cheating Sim in a matter of days and move on like nothing happened.

This seems to happen with any kind of conflict between Sims. I once had my Sim beat up and elder on the street, and immediately after they were happily discussing their interests! The same thing happened when I declared that elder Sim a nemesis! I’d like more of a challenge when it comes to being forgiven after my Sim’s done something clearly wrong.

On top of all this, I feel like some of the general interactions are lacking. Sims don’t really seem to react to each other’s big life achievements like engagements, marriages, promotions, and having children. There used to be an option to congratulate Sims on these events in The Sims 3, which is nowhere to be seen in The Sims 4. It’s a small gameplay element I think would really add to the relationships of Sims; it’d show that they’re actually aware of what the Sims around them are up to!

4 - Improved Fears

I actually love the fears system in The Sims 4. I like how certain incidents like having something catch on fire or having a Sim be cheated on can cause them to develop fears which need to be worked through. And I absolutely LOVE being able to discuss these fears with other Sims.

What I don’t like, on the other hand, is how quickly some of these fears develop. And how persistent they are. I’m sure you already know which fears I’m talking about. That’s right, the fear of unfulfilled dreams and the fear of a dead end job. These fears are downright annoying. They never seem to go away, no matter how many times you get promoted or discuss them with other Sims. It’d be miles better if these kinds of fears developed over a longer period of time and were easier to get rid of. Oh, and if they didn’t come back once you got rid of them!

5 - More Traits

Does it really need explaining? I think there should be more traits to choose from in the CAS menu. That’s it, really.

6 - Improve Babies And Children

The only thing I need to say about babies is that in The Sims 4, they’re classed as objects. (What the heck, EA?) As for children, I think the life stage itself is fine and I like how many skills they can develop, but when it comes to children’s activities, the selection is pretty limited. Indoor activities, I mean. Let’s see, we’ve got a science table, a drawing table, a drawing table, a drawing table, a drawing table- need I go on? Give kids more things to do!

Well, that’s about everything I can think of. I’d love to know your opinions, and what features you’d like to see yourselves!
