“Attitude is altitude” reveals at the true moment when facing intentional blame in public

Reflection of week 5 December, 2024

I am proud of what have been achieved and well recognized by the companies i served in the past. Until this week my pride was smashed by CEO’s intentional blame during a meeting.

Frankly speaking, it hurts. Why？On one hand, it is the resentment toward deliberate unfairness; on the other hand, it is the embarrassment of losing face at the moment.

Now I have calmed down a bit and relfect about how to handle it differently next time;

1. Express understanding the other party’s feelings or position: understanding does not equate to agreement.
2. State the facts clearly and concisely: avoid emotional language, focus on the facts themselves.
3. Redirect towards the common goal

Such a manner of “neither servile nor overbearing” is much easier said than done. The most difficult part is how to keep calm and stay attuned to the common goal at the intense moment.

A "Soul-searching question”, isn’t ?, I decide to cultivate 3 mindset transformers as starter;

1. prioritize “ problem solving” over “ ego saving”

2. replace “defensiveness” with “curiosity”

3. “face” is earned by my delivery not by eloquence

Ultimately, i hope free from self-restraints of “ego” and “saving face”, allowing me to showcase my strength and poise more effortlessly in the face of challenges.
