The Evolution of GANCUBE

GANCUBE is a very popular Rubik’s cube making company, along with YJ, MoYu, QiYi, and many others. GANCUBE’s cubes have improved very much in the past 6 years, from the Gan 356 all the way to the Gan 16. Lets dive into the history of GANCUBE’s flagship cubes for every year along with other cubes like the Gan Skewb M, Gan 251, and the Gan 356 M.

2020 — Gan 11

On September 30, 2020, GANCUBE’s first flagship cube, the Gan 11, came out. It used the classic springs system, and was preferred by many people. Later that year, Gan released the Gan 11 M Pro, an improved version of the Gan 11.

2021 — Gan 12

The Gan 12 was released around October, 2021. It had 2 variants: Leap and Maglev. The maglev was a big hit back then, because it was the first GANCUBE to use the Maglev feature, while the Leap still used springs. Many people switched to the Gan 12 even though it was expensive. Lots of people still use it today.

2022 — Gan 13

The Gan 13 was the flagship cube for 2022. It is really fast out of the box and is recommended to set up before using. It comes with a magnetic box, which is really cool, compared to the Gan 11 and 12’s drop-to-open box. It also has a FX version, which is basically the same, except that you can’t customize it.

2023 — Gan 14

This cube has lots of customization options, and by a lot, I mean, a lot. There are customizable magnets, with green and blue magnets. There is also a cap popper to pop off the caps, which have things going deep into the cube, to make sure it doesn’t fall off easily. Also there is a “fire hydrant” used to customize the center travel and tension. There is also a pro version available.

2024 — Gan 15

This cube is a lot faster than its ancestors. It cut almost all of the customization options from its ancestor, the Gan 14. It features lightweight technology, which is really helpful for long practice sessions, usually with over 200 solves.

2025 — Gan 16

This cube is the flagship cube for 2025. With lots of customizable magnets, it is in competition with the Weilong v11. It is very fast, except it burns through lube way too fast, according to thecubicle’s youtube channel.

Gan Skewb series

The Gan skewb series is a really great line of skewbs. It contains the Gan skewb standard and enhanced. The standard features basic GAN tension nut customizing, while the enhanced features a better “glidy” feeling overall.

Gan 251 series (and 249)

The Gan 251 series is a series of 2x2s that are 51 milimeters wide. It contains the V2, air, pro, and leap. They all feature spring technology, but their pros and cons can vary. The V2 is a non-magnetic and cheap version, coming in at around $10 — $15. The Air is a magnetic variant, coming in at about $20 dollars. The Pro is more enhanced version, featuring customizable magnets and a tensioning system, coming in at $35. The leap is the ultimate version, with the same features as the pro, costing about $40. It also has a UV version that costs around $45-$50 dollars. The GAN 249 is just a smaller version of the gan 251.

Gan 356 series

The Gan 356 series is a 3x3 series by gan. It features the 356 RS, M, ME, SE, X, Xs, and some outdated versions such as the Air SM. Rs doesn’t have magnets, at around $15. The M is a magnetic version, with customizable tensions (I think), at around $25. The ME is just an enhanced version of the M, costing around $35 to $40. The X is a pro level GANCUBE, with customizable tensions, customizable magnets, and a really preferable turning feel, according to Jperm. It comes at a surprising $50 to $65 dollars. There is also the XS, a better version of the X, costing about $70.

Gan Pyraminx

I never had this cube, nor had I felt it, so I’m just going to base my review on other people’s ideas. It features spring technology, with a set of the classic swappable gan GES tension nuts. It feels a little too flimsy, according to Z3Cubing.

Gan Megaminx

The Gan megaminx has 2 variants: The V1 and the V2. The major difference is that the V1 uses springs, and the V2 uses maglev. They feature a curve at the edge of a corner, replacing the old ridges technology. It comes at around $60 for V2. I don’t think that the V1 is for sale now.

Conclusion

So the best way to find a GANCUBE that suits you well, is to try all of them. You don’t have to buy them yourself, because you can just try other people’s cubes at competitions or meetups if they let you. I would suggest the Gan 11 Pro or the Gan 12 maglev for 3x3, as they are easily the best GANCUBEs if you don’t know which one to buy.
