I Hit a Girl With a Football. It Didn’t Go as Planned.

I thought saying sorry would end the story. Instead, I got kicked.

I Hit a Girl With a Football. It Didn’t Go as Planned.

I thought saying sorry would end the story. Instead, I got kicked.

There are college memories you expect to remember forever, and then there are the ones that quietly become unforgettable without asking for permission. Mine didn’t begin in a classroom, during a college fest, or on my first day of college. It started on an ordinary evening with a football that had absolutely no interest in finding the goal.

My friends and I had reached the ground a little early before the match started. Nobody felt like waiting, so we did what every college football group does — we took random shots at the goal, argued over who had the strongest kick, and acted as if we were one good match away from becoming professionals.

Our confidence was sky-high. Unfortunately, our football skills couldn’t always keep up.

I placed the ball in front of me, took one confident shot, and immediately learned that confidence and accuracy are two completely different things.

Instead of finding the goal, the ball flew straight toward a girl who was walking across the ground.

It wasn’t a powerful shot, but it was enough to make a few students stop and turn around. My friends suddenly became very interested spectators. Apparently, watching me struggle was far more entertaining than helping me.

“Bro… I think you just hit someone.”

I turned around and walked straight toward her. She was holding her head and looking at me in a way that made me rehearse my apology before I even reached her.

“I’m really sorry. I didn’t even see you.”

She looked at me for a second.

“That really hurt.”

Trying to make the situation less serious, I said,

“I don’t think it hit you that hard.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“Oh really? And how would you know?”

Without thinking, I replied,

“Because I kicked the ball.”

If I had apologized again and quietly walked away, the story probably would’ve ended right there.

Unfortunately, I decided to explain myself.

“Because I kicked the ball. I know it wasn’t that hard.”

The moment those words left my mouth, I knew I’d made things worse.

She stared at me without saying a word.

Behind me, my friends had already accepted that they weren’t part of the rescue mission anymore. They stood at a safe distance, trying — and failing — not to laugh.

She replied

“First you hit me, and now you’re arguing with me?”

I wasn’t arguing.

At least, I didn’t think I was.

I was simply trying to explain that it had been an accident, but every sentence somehow sounded worse than the one before it. Realizing I wasn’t winning this conversation, I finally gave up and made what I thought was a fair offer.

“Fine… then you can hit me back.”

She smiled.

“Deal.”

For one glorious second, I was convinced she was about to pick up the football.

She didn’t.

She walked straight toward me, kicked me on the leg, stepped back, smiled, and said,

“There. Now we’re even.”

For a few seconds, I just stood there, still trying to process what had happened.

Behind me, my friends completely lost it. One of them laughed so hard he had to sit down on the grass. I had imagined plenty of ways that apology could end.

Getting kicked back had never crossed my mind.

She simply turned around and walked away as if kicking a senior was the most reasonable way to settle an argument.

My friends made sure I wouldn’t forget it either. The rest of the evening was filled with jokes at my expense. Every few minutes, someone would ask if I was “recovering,” only to burst into laughter before I could answer. I tried looking annoyed, but eventually I gave up and laughed with them. The whole situation had become too ridiculous to take seriously.

As we packed up and left the ground, I glanced back at the football field. Just an hour earlier, it had been another ordinary evening with friends.

I went there expecting to play football. I left with a story I’d still be laughing about years later.

It’s funny how college memories work. We spend years worrying about exams, grades, and attendance, but years later, those aren’t the stories we end up telling. Somehow, it’s the unexpected moments — the embarrassing ones, the ridiculous ones, and the ones that make everyone laugh — that stay with us the longest.

At the time, I was convinced I’d never see that girl again.

But College has a funny way of proving people wrong.

A few days later, I met her again. And somehow…

the next encounter was even funnier than the first.

I still have no idea how she managed to turn one accidental football shot into a story that kept getting better.

That story deserves its own chapter.

This story isn’t over yet. I decided to split it into multiple parts because I wanted each moment to have the space it deserved.

The next chapter will be published soon.

College Diaries continues…
