hello again.

hello again.
it’s amazing how you’re just going about your day and random things from your past pop into your head. i was having such a good day, it’s a saturday so i had a lie in, cleaned and tidied the house spotless, got ready and am about to head out to do some shopping. and then something my father said to me just came into my head.
“그래, 난 딸복도 없고, 사위복도 없다"
thought i’d use AI to translate this as it definitely does a better job at conveying what this means.
“Yeah, I have no luck with daughters, and no luck with sons-in-law either.”
A bit of context: this is a Korean expression where 복 (bok) means “luck” or “blessing.” The phrase conveys a parent’s lament that they’ve been unfortunate — either in how their daughter turned out, or in the son-in-law they ended up with (or both). It carries a tone of resignation and mild bitterness.
to put this in context, this was after my engagement to my now husband, whilst we were visiting them in korea, and after a public scene of my father stewing in his own anger, having a one-sided conversation with me in a kbbq restaurant, with my husband sitting next to me and tears rolling down my face.
ahh… the brain works in mysterious ways. this memory may have popped into my head because i got off the phone with my mother ranting about my father a mere hour or two ago.
anyway, maybe if it comes back again in the future i will write exactly what happened but for now, i don’t want it to ruin my day. heading out for some shopping! :)
till next time!
