Mr. Peacock walking along with me — Author’s Photo
I was out on my morning walk, noise-canceling ear pods playing Taylor Swift, but don’t tell my son, he will rib me till the cows come home. There is the music he likes, and everything else — no one should listen to. I wonder where he gets his opinionated talent from, surely his Mom.
I was walking on the road in my neighborhood, so I felt safe using the ear pods, no rattlesnakes.
Minding my own business, when out of the blue something huge flew so close to my head it knocked my ballcap off my head, and said Peacock landed four paces in front of me.
It startled me, actually scared the heck out of me, because he flew in over my left shoulder, and with a blind left eye, I have no peripheral vision on the left and didn’t see him coming, plus with the noise-canceling headphones, I didn’t hear him as well.
I have seen many a peacock, but never have I seen one in flight; they are huge, flying over your head just inches.

One of my neighbors said that he lives at a winery up the road, but likes to vacation in our neighborhood. I have never seen him. But he was clearly not afraid of me, and walked along with me for a quarter of a mile before heading off into the oak grove.
I hoped he would display the tail feathers for a nice photo shoot, but he wasn’t in the mood.
But I made a watercolor painting of what it might have looked like if he did.

Mr. Peacock in all his glory — my interpertation — Author’s Art
Painting feathers is not easy, but I think I captured his expression spot on.
They are very loud, so even when he is at his winery home, I can hear him. They have a very loud call.
Now, just think, if I were sitting on the sofa, I would have missed all this excitement.
I do love my walks.
Have you seen a peacock in flight? I’m really curious. I didn’t even know they could fly.
