Introduction

If you have read other articles of mine, you might know that I learn a lot about AI from reading and following AI Creatives on Medium, Facebook, and X. One user that I have been following for a while has a username of Geeky Animals (**their Medium profile — [their latest article](https://medium.com/creativity-ai/creativity-ai-78-runway-kills-unlimited-midjourney-office-hours-and-ideogram-4-0-goes-open-37c13f07facc)**).

Recently their articles have been summaries of what is going on with a lot of AI image and video platforms. I read them each week to keep up with the latest versions of products and new developments. The articles have included write ups of the Midjourney Office Hours.

They also share something that inspires them each week. Last week the inspiration section of their article was about Suprematism in Art and Kazimir Malevich (**Suprematism or [Malevich](https://www.britannica.com/biography/Kazimir-Malevich)** links).

Learning about Suprematism and Kazimir Malevich

I didn’t know much about either Malevich or the Suprematism movement that he founded, so I did some research. I read about the artist and the movement and viewed some of the art that they created.

After a short write up in the their last article, Geeky animals provided some interesting prompts in the article and some examples of art created with the prompts. These prompts were inspired by Suprematism and Malevich.

I was very intrigued by the minimalistic and geometric aspects of the images and I wanted to try to create some of my own.

The first thing that I wanted to see was how well Midjourney would respond to a fairly bare bones prompt using the term “suprematism”. My prompt was:

create a large modern mural in the suprematism style hanging
in a well lit gallery of a modern museum --v 8.1 --ar 7:3 --raw --hd 

Here are all four of the sample images that Midjourney created.

All four of these images looked like very polished examples of Suprematist Art. They captured many of the characteristics present in this type of art. I also liked what Midjourney did it terms of styling the galleries to fit with the art.

Next I wanted to see how Midjourney would respond to a prompt that named Kazimir Malevich and asked it to create art in his style. Here is my prompt:

create a geometric image in the style of Kazimir Malevich
--v 8.1 --ar 5:4 --raw --hd 

And here is the image that Midjourney created in Malevich’s style.

I thought back to some iPhone wallpaper that I had seen using abstract geometric shapes with a limited color palette, and I thought I would try to create some wallpaper images in Malevich’s style.

Before I created my image samples I did a little more research and found that most of the information recommended using an aspect ratio of 9:19.5 when creating images for wallpaper (Midjourney doesn’t allow aspect ratios with decimal values so I modified it to 18:39 which Midjourney simplified to 6:13). I created my prompt:

create a dazzling iPhone wallpaper in the style of Kazimir Malevich
--v 8.1 --ar 6:13 --raw --hd 

And then created a set of sample images.

The first two images in this group looked the most like Malevich’s style to me but I really liked all four images and thought they would make interesting wallpapers for mobile phones. I decided to create variations of all four images, so I made both a “strong” variation group and a “subtle variation group”.

In the section below you can see a larger version of each of the four sample images followed by a collage showing the groups of strong and subtle variations.

I think some of these images would make great iPhone wallpapers!

I wanted to try one more test of Midjourney’s knowledge of Suprematism by searching the Style Explorer on the Midjourney website. I simply typed “suprematism” in the search box and Midjourney provided me with lots of style references that matched my search.

I chose four of the SREF IDs to use in creating “suprematist still lifes” (2725974056, 3101944463, 3237669832, and 3534290868).

I used the prompt:

a suprematist still life
--v 8.1 --ar 1:1 --raw --sref (SREF ID here) --stylize 500 --hd

Again this group of images created with SREF IDs seem to have captured the Suprematist style very well.
